When Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox brought the X-Men film rights back home to Marvel Studios, fans couldn’t wait to see their favorite mutants finally join the MCU. While many expected a full-blown reboot with fresh faces, Kevin Feige seems to be having a blast using the Multiverse Saga to revisit Fox’s X-Men era before hitting the reset button.

And now the casting rumor mill is working overtime as usual. Though Jennifer Lawrence once brought Mystique to life, word on the street is that Feige has his sights set on a fresh face for the shape-shifting mutant, and it is none other than Hunter Schafer.
Hunter Schafer might be the next Mystique!
Jennifer Lawrencemight still pop up as Mystique, given Kevin Feige’s habit of bringing back Fox-era X-Men for fun cameos. However, he’s also on the hunt for fresh faces to take on the role permanently.
According to rumors,Euphoriastar Hunter Schafer is in consideration, and, in a rare win, fans are actually loving the idea!

Right now, the idea ofHunter Schaferas Mystique is just a wild rumor that seemingly came out of nowhere, but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting excited! Here is what people are saying,

While Kevin Feige has hinted that the X-Men will be a major part of the MCU afterAvengers: Secret Wars, no official casting decisions have been made. Some fans believeSecret Warswill reset the MCU entirely, making it so the X-Men were always part of the universe.

That would mean fresh faces for classic roles, though Hugh Jackman might just keep slashing away as Wolverine till he is 90. Either way, there’s still plenty of time to lock in the next generation of X-Men, but the idea of Schafer stepping in as Mystique’s is certainly intriguing!
X-Men fans are hoping the MCU gets these characters right!
Even if Jennifer Lawrence returns for a cameo, Kevin Feige would have his work cut out for him convincing her to suit up in blue again. As everyone knows by now, she wasn’t exactly a fan of the long hours it took to transform into Mystique. On top of that, her character’s arc didn’t quite land the way fans had hoped.

Fox’s version of Mystique took a surprising turn, shifting away from her classic shape-shifting anti-hero persona and instead being pushed into a leadership role, something that left many fans scratching their heads.
Fans are feeling hopeful now that Michael Lesslie is writing the MCU’sX-Menreboot. His work onThe Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesshowed he knows how to create strong, complex female characters, Lucy Gray wasn’t just interesting, she was a powerhouse. If he brings that same magic to the X-Women, fans might finally see Jean Grey, Storm, and Mystique done right.
TheX-Menhave always had amazing female characters, but truth be told, the Fox movies didn’t quite do them justice. Jean Grey’sDark Phoenixstory fell flat, Storm barely got any real development, and Rogue lost her comic-book flare. Now, with a fresh start on the horizon, fans are excited an more importantly hopeful to see these iconic mutants finally get their moment to shine.
