From earning an Oscar win for her stint inRoomto headlining the MCU’s first female-led superhero flick, Brie Larson’s rise to stardom in the last decade has been exponential. But this hasn’t stopped the actress from cherishing her privacy, for which the Oscar winner almost ended up declining her Marvel gig inCaptain Marvel.

While fans of the MCU are well acquainted with the actress’ diverse filmography, surprisingly, things couldn’t be more different in the real world, as the actress confessed that not many recognize her in public.

Detailing such an incident, theCaptain Marvelstar recalled (viaHarpers Bazaar) that people once failed to recognize her outside of a theatre in London, which seemingly left the security guard baffled.
I was just standing there, and he was like, ‘How is this possible?’

Elaborating on the surprising occurrence, Larson confessed that this wasn’t an isolated incident as the actress shared that she often goes unrecognized, joking,“I am the classic face of ‘friend of your cousin”. Her relative anonymity in public might’ve to do with Larson’s desire to be rooted in reality.
I want to be in reality. I love reality. It’s all I want. My biggest fear is to not be in reality. It matters so much to me. I don’t wear super flashy clothes when I’m out in the world because I want to stay in reality. I’m very good at confrontation in my relationships because I want to be in reality. I want to be in what’s as close to true as possible.

Interestingly, her adamancy to preserve her anonymity almost led to her exclusion fromCaptain Marvel, as she was hesitant to headline an MCU flick.
The change inCaptain Marvel‘s pitch finally got Brie Larson hooked
When Marvel first approached the actress with the major gig, Brie Larson was reasonably against it, given her anxiety issues regarding potentially losing her anonymity. However, the casting directors were persistent about getting the Oscar winner onboard, and after they pitched it as an empowering step for feminism, Larson was finally hooked, as sherecalledbeing“very moved by what they were trying to achieve”.
I was very surprised by the way that they were talking about feminism and the way they were handling it.
