Santoshi Tajri founded Game Freak with Junichi Masuda. Their curious personalities enabled them to form a healthy bond and a long-lasting working relationship with each other. They have seen some very tough times together, but that only made their bond grow fonder.
There was a time when Game Freak almost went bankrupt and Taijiri had to take up odd jobs as a writer to make ends meet and pay his staff or they would leave the company. Many employees had already left, but this did not demoralize Tajiri even one bit, since money was not the reason why he began this journey.
Pokémon Creators Have Seen Some Tough Times Together
Taijiri loved to stay outside his house; he would spend hours near theoutskirts of Tokyo, catching insects. He has been fascinated with nature ever since he was a little boy. As Taijiri grew up, he became interested in arcade games and would spend hours at gaming cafes.
He expressed his love for video games by writing about them in his magazine called Game Freak, which he launched in 1982 with his friend and the future artist ofPokémon, Ken Sugimori; this is how it originated. Writing about games sparked his curiosity further about the development process of a video game, and that is when he met with his desire to develop a game of his own.
When Masuda met Tajiri, he was already developing his first game, an action-adventure called Mendel’s Palace. Tajiri asked Masuda to write the soundtrack for his game, and a relationship between the two was established. The meetings between the two started becoming frequent, and they eventually decided to open a company called Game Freak.

Tajiri was lucky enough to strike a deal with Nintendo since it was already quite fond of the man. A long and straining process of developingPokémonbegan. It took 6 years for the game to be complete, and the company faced a lot of difficulties during that time. Many employees left after realizing the shortage of funds, so Tajiri and Masuda had to work odd jobs to make ends meet and give paychecks to their employees.
6 Years Later, A Cultural Phenomenon Was Born
Tajiri was the emotional one between the two, and he never lost hope in his project. He was optimistic till the very end, even when the company was bankrupt.

Throughout the 6 years, he just focused on making a good game that came directly from his heart. There was honesty in his approach; he was sharing a part of his life with the world that was profoundly beautiful and deeply personal.
Pokémon, 6 years later, opened up to a slow start. People were not interested in the game from the beginning; however, when Tajiri introduced a mystery 151st character, people started becoming curious, and the sales of the game began to rise; it has not stopped ever since.
