As reported byFamitsumagazine, Monster Hunter Wild has sold 601,179 physical copies for PlayStation 5. This makes it the most successful Japanese PS5 launch to date, easily surpassing other titles likeFinal Fantasy 16(429,330 copies) andFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth(358,353 copies).

Compared to other Monster Hunter titles, though, it’s lagging behind Monster Hunter World, which sold over 1.35 million physical copies for PS4 at launch. Fans are getting ready for the next Monster Hunter game by revisiting Monster Hunter World.
Combined with the spike in sales for Monster Hunter World, it’s clear that gamers have Monster Hunter fever. Four of Capcom’s top ten selling games are all from the Monster Hunter franchise.
While the list hasn’t been updated since Monster Hunter Wild’s release, its over 8 million copies sold place it just shy of the top 10, ahead of notable games like Street Fighter V and the original Resident Evil 2 release for PS1. Currently, that top ten list is topped by Monster Hunter: World (21 million units sold) and Monster Hunter Rise (16.7 million units sold), but don’t be surprised to see Wild end up there in no time.
