Shadowheart’s Awful Domain Needs Changing
So, why do people hate Shadowheart’s class so much? The game throws a healer at the player straight away, and she’s useful for the entire game, so changing her would surely bea detriment to her utility.
In the oldDungeons & Dragons5e rules, a Cleric chose their Domain (aka, their subclass), at level one. This determines several class abilities and spells they receive throughout the game. Shadowheart’s default Domain is Trickery, which gives her stealth-based powers that most players won’t use.
Instead, players love switching her to a different type of Cleric. The most popular choices are Life Domain, where she’s a much better healer, and the Death Domain, which grants her necromancy powers.Death Domain was added in Patch 8, so it hasn’t been around long, but it’s a popular choice for players.
While the Trickery Domain does fit Shadowheart’s role in the story better, it’s just not as useful as the other choices in the game. Most players aren’t going to rely on a Cleric for stealth powers, not when Invisibility scrolls and Rogue party members are easy to acquire, so Shadowheart is better suited for a different job.
