Although the developers of theCall of Dutyseries, which alternates between Treyarch Studios, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games, frequently determine many of the game’s features, a recent leak indicates that the studios may no longer have the last say on some aspects.

Microsoft Is Reportedly Setting Up a Committee forCall of Duty

Microsoft has now appointed a committee to supervise any future additions to the franchise’s features and systems, according to prominentCall of DutyleakerTheGhostOfHope.

Hope clarifies that a committee established by Microsoft, which now owns Activision-Blizzard following a successful acquisition in October 2023, will decide on features like the recently released Omnimovement rather than Treyarch or Infinity Ward.

The leaker continued by saying that studios are being warned not to make any changes toCall of Duty‘s contentious UI, Prestige system, or other gameplay elements.

Sledgehammer, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and other supporting studios are instead being instructed to concentrate on developing new game modes, multiplayer maps, and narratives because“that is where they want the creativity to come from.”Activision plans to make the shooter’s user interface“closer and closer”to previous games in the series, Hope said in a more thorough response to a fan.

Why Is This Committee Needed?

Over the years, theCall of Dutyfranchise has undergone many changes, from energy weapons and jetpacks to the wildly successful Battle Royale spin-off. TheCall of Dutycommunity has been around for more than 20 years and has seen almost everything.

Although some games have been far more popular than others,Black Ops 6was the most recent addition to the series. It featured a new Omnidirectional movement system that lets players run, dive, and go prone in any direction.

However, thisnew feature is heavily criticizedby the fans, as it was literally killing the OGCall of Dutyvibe. Also, the launch maps have been facing backlashas well because of their lack of innovations as they failed to offer something unique.

There are certain reasons why the committee is mainly focused on bringing an overhaul change in the maps, modes, and storytelling, as these are the things that matter the most. The likes of UI, Prestige, and other gameplay features should be kept as they are because changing them not only disrupts the usual experience but also doesn’t give a significant benefit from a player’s perspective.

It’s unclear how much of an impact this will have on theCall of Dutyfranchise’s future if this leak turns out to be accurate.
