Michael Caine remembers giving Tom Cruise some advice; however, he does not remember exactly what he told him. The legendary actor joked that whatever he did tell the young actor could not have hurt him considering how he is at the top of the film industry now.
Regardless of what he said to Cruise, Caine mentioned that he could tell that there was something special about him even when they met for the first time. He even pointed out that the young actor carried an essence that is very rare in Hollywood now.
I can’t remember what I said, but it obviously didn’t do him any harm! There was something special about him. He had a great attitude, this sense of poise. What interests me is that he is really one of the last true stars in movies. People will go to see a film just because he’s in it. Brad Pitt is a star, Morgan Freeman has some of that quality too. There are so few nowadays.

Caine mentioned that Cruise is one of the last “true stars” in Hollywood. Elaborating on what he meant by this, he mentioned that Cruise’s name is enough to make people go to theaters to watch a film that he is in. Although there were a few names that he pointed out have similar effects, they don’t seem to be as impactful as Cruise, according to Caine.
