Fresh off a 45-minute Nintendo Direct forKirby Air Ride, it’s been radio silence for any newMetroid Prime 4: Beyondnews from Gamescom 2025.
Despite getting rated in South Korea, there’s still no official release date for the game other than “2025.” It is, however, playable on the Gamescom showfloor, so Nintendo is confident in showing the game to fans. We did, however, get one piece of news, albeit it was a quiet one:The ESRB has rated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond “T” for Teen, as spotted by the game’s officialNintendo Store page.
Normally, this indicates that the game is getting ready to release, but again, Nintendo hasn’t said a peep about a release date, and their press site hasn’t updated the game’s information since April’s Nintendo Direct.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s Lengthy Development May Finally Be Over
It’s been a long time coming for Metroid Prime 4. First announced at E3 2017, the game was originally developed by Bandai Namco Studios. In 2019, Nintendo, unhappy with the game’s progress, said that development had restarted at Retro Studios.
Retro, of course, developed the first three entries in theMetroid Primeseries before developing Donkey Kong Country Returns andTropical Freeze. The game’s plot followsSamus Arantraveling to the planet Viewros, where she’ll encounter the bounty hunter Sylux, first introduced in 2006’s Metroid Prime Hunters and teased during a special ending for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Before the recent Kirby Air Riders Direct, there were rumors of a pre-Gamescom Nintendo Direct that would have, presumably, focused on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Instead, we got three Nintendo Directs: an Indie World, a Partner Showcase, and a 45-minute Kirby Air Riders extravaganza. That’s not to say we won’t have a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Direct later this year. Nintendo has had a history of hosting Directs in September, as was the case in 2023, 2022, and 2021. Time will tell, however, if this will be the case for Metroid.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released for both the Nintendo Switch and theNintendo Switch 2later this year.
