One of the key details inMetaphor: Refantaziois how you may engage in various activities amidst the main story dungeons. And of them being thetarget bountiesyou can tackle from the recruitment center.
These bounties mainly lead to challenging boss fights in the game’s many side dungeons, but the one we will discuss today is theKokamordos, found in the “Cockatrice in the Clouds” bounty.

He’s an ice-cold killer, but the good news is, so are you!
The bounty itself is available to tackle in the final month and has you venturing to theManor of the Ascendant in the Port Brilehaven region.

Navigating this ancient manor can be slightly tricky, and you also get the trouble of the unexpectedly difficult boss fight at the end.
Thankfully, I’m here to walk you through everything, and with the strategy guide I’ve mentioned when battling the Kokamordos, you’ll be able to head back and claim the bountiful reward of its trophy in no time flat.

Navigating The Manor Of The Ascendant
Unlike the many other side dungeons, you’d be surprised just how shortthis one is considering it’s one of the endgame side dungeons. But that doesn’t mean it’s to be taken lightly whatsoever.
Before we go into briefly describing the dungeon,I’ve listed the enemies found here along with their weaknessesso you can safely plan out everything beforehand and take them out in case they prove to be troublesome:

Resistances/Immunity
Potolpo Bru
Noctiluca Papyrmas
Pierce, Wind, Dark
Fire, Light
Raging Corvosta
Balmy Alento
Kokasadors
Pierce, Fire
Dark Elementa
The whole idea of this dungeon is based on theteleportation platforms centered between the four sidesof the map. They won’t be available at the start so your first objective is getting to thenorthernmost part to pull a switchand activate them.
Be careful of the Potolpo Bru pots scattered around here and throughout the dungeon as they detonate like landmines when you get close to them.

In the first room with the teleporter, you’re able to head to the right with some enemies and grab aTainted Polearm.
Continue to the left side and before entering the left teleporter room with the Balmy Alento, grab theMagla Injection at the end of the hallway with some enemies.
As shown in the image above for reference, squeeze through the crawlspace in the western teleporter room to emerge into a room that leads to a ladder, climb it, and you’ll now be on the upper balcony floor of this dungeon.
I’ve marked the image above withwhere you need to go to progress the dungeon in greenand the valuables on the floor in blue, but for quick reference, I’ll mention the items just in case you miss them.
Once you’re ready to progress, head to the southernmost ladder on this balcony floor, and climb down. You’ll now be in theeastern partof the ground floor.
Grab theGraced Waterat the bottom of the ladder, take out any enemies between your path, and head upwards to thenorthern teleporter plate room.
Activate the switch here, and it should now trigger a short cutscene thatlights up all the teleporter plates, including the one in this room. They all transport you to and fro the middle area with thepatrolling Kokasador,so be ready.
On this middle floor, take thecentermost teleporter platformwhich will send you to a brand-new area where you’re able to meet a Chipped Tooth to get key information on the Kokamordos itself.
Right before the final boss hallway is a room with another Kokasador, a Papyrmas, and two Potolpo Brus.
Behind the latter, once they detonate, go through a crawlspace that leads to two treasure chests with extremely valuable gear.
One chest contains the Heavenly Raimentthat boosts your stats by +5 while the other hasthe Rakshasi’s Fan,a weapon for the Masked Dancer Archetype. That coversall the missable itemsin this dungeon.
Head up once again and you should now be able to save your progress before ultimately engaging with the Kokamordos.

How To Prepare For The Kokamordos
The Kokamordos is a level 67 large Bird Monster weak to Pierce and Ice attacks, and before I get into the rest of his details, let’s lay out theparty setupwe’re working with, their archetypes, and some general notes regarding their usage during the battle:
Party Setup
Archetypes
Additional Notes
Protagonist
Equip any skills from other Arcehetypes to target weakness. Make sure to useHero’s Cryto gain four turns at the beginning of the battle.
Hulkenberg
Dark Knight
The Pierce attacks will help target the weakness. Inherit theShelter Formationskill from theGeneral Archetype.
Persona Master
Junah will act as ourSupport and Debuffer,so inherit over skills from theTrickster and Healer Elite Archetypes. Equip any mask you like; I went with Elementalist.
Basilio is a great pick with a fantastic synthesis ability with the Protagonist to further expose the weakness. Hex Shot from theSniper Archetypewill work great on him.
This boss has a slight gimmick you may prepare against beforehand if you pay attention to the tips from theNPCs in the dungeon and the Info Broker at the Tavern.
While initially analyzing it won’t reveal too many of its attacks, the main gimmick of the fight should be your main concern, which I’ve discussed below, along with some other important pointers to be mindful of:
How To Defeat The Kokamordos
As soon as the fight begins and you get a turn as the protagonist, I strongly recommend casting hisPrince Archetype’s Hero’s Cry skill to gain an extra four turns. You don’t need it per se, but it’s like 99 MP, and this is one of those battles where you shoulddefinitelyuse it.
If you’re using Basilio, make sure to Charge first if you use his Hex Shot(which we inherited earlier) to increase the damage output. Regarding Hulkenberg, immediately cast Shelter Formationto grant your party two stacks of defense and move them to the back.
In addition to Hero’s Cry, since you’ll automatically haveGallica’s Bond maxed outat this point, she may also activate Victory Foresight to give you extra turn icons.
Whilekeeping everyone in the backline hereis preferred to avoid further damage, I had no problem keeping Hulkenberg on the frontline. Herhigh endurance lets her tank damage easily,so you can freely maximize her physical damage from the Pierce skills.
As for Junah, we know the Kokamordos tends to cast Vidyarhta on your party, but with theTrickster Archetype, you’re able to inherit that skill for yourselfand launch it on this bird to give it a taste of its own medicine and make quick work of it while it’s debuffed.
Keep an eye on your defense buff, and be sure to always refresh it whenever it’s about to run out;it should be your main priority hereand, honestly, that applies for any of the latter endgame boss fights in the game.
Basilio’s Destroyer Archetype also has a powerful Synthesis ability to launch with the Prince’s Archetype,Wild Bore, which deals extreme physical Pierce damageto an enemy and lowers their attack, perfect for making this boss’s attacks feel even weaker.
Continue to repeat this strategy and switch out any party members you wish during the fight if they’re not proving to be as valuable as you thought. You should be done quickly, provided you’re not overly under-leveled for this fight.
You’ll receive the following rewards for beating the Kokamordos in addition to the bounty rewards that you claim when heading back to the Recruitment Center in town:
