According to recent leaks,a memory leak issue in theXboxport ofBlack Myth: Wukongis reportedly the reason behind the game’s delayed platform release.
Black Myth Wukong: Best Skills To Unlock Early
Spend Those Sparks Wisely
After speaking withXboxinsiders during Gamescom,Spanish leaker EXtas1stv announced the rumored issue through an X post earlier today.
For those unfamiliar withmemory leaks, it’s where the game fails to delete data put into the RAM, which then affects performance and eventually crashes the game.

Smaller games that use less RAM could go on for a long time without impacting gameplay despite memory leaks, but games as big asBlack Myth: Wukongdon’t have this luxury.
InBlack Myth: Wukong’s case, the Series S’s limited 10 gigs of RAM could be the reason behind the memory leaks.

With the Series X matching the PS5’s 16 gigs of RAM,it’s hard to see what other hardware limitation is impacting the game’s performance enough to warrant a delay.
The Series S also has less than half of the Series X’s usablestorage space.

While Xbox is the sole platform facing delayed release,PS5players have also reported frame drops during longer gaming sessions.
The X post did not specify either Xbox model, but some hypothesized that the Xbox Series S is the reason behind the delay. As the Series X’sless powerful cousin, itshardware could finally buckle under some games' requirements.

Xbox Series S: The ‘S’ Stands For Sup-Par
Less memory and storage notwithstanding, theSeries S is a very capable console that handles most games relatively well. So, is there any merit to the speculation?
The Series S has shown clear performance dips when too much ishappening at once on screen and longer playtime. Players have reported horrible framerate when playingElden Ring’s DLC,Apex Legends, and evenFortnite.
With many particle effects, moving parts, animations, and enemies,Black Myth: Wukongcould havepushed Series S to itsbreaking point.
That said, theSeries S is still an all-around good current-generation consolewith enoughhardware capabilitiestorun most gamesout there, if run atmarginally lower graphical settings.
Black Myth: Wukong Is Already Topping Steam Charts & Breaking Records
Black Myth: Wukong’s release has taken the world of gaming by a storm, breaking records set by iconic games such as Elden Ring and Counter Strike 2.
Xbox’s refusal to let a half-baked port make its way to the Series Smight indicate their continuing support of the console regardless of its limitations, which is always good news.
However, don’t mistake this initiative forgenuine customer care. The Series S is a large moneymaker for Xboxwith74.8% of Xbox Series owners having one. Despite being less capable than the Series X, it has outsold the former by a significant margin.
Honestly, with inflation and the economy the way are, who can blame anyone for choosing a capable and cheaper alternative?
Even if there is no set Xbox release date, it’s good to know that the Series S has not been forgotten and thatthe developers are trying to fix the memory leak as soon as possible and get Xbox’s approval for release.
Meanwhile, Xbox players can only wait and maybe listen to theHeadless Bard’s sick music.
