Marvel Snap’s newest card, Selene, joins the list of recent additions (likeMatryrandHavok) that have Abilities that can be seen as detrimental to the player using them. Selene is ideal in a disrupt deck and due to her -1-Power, she isn’t very beneficial outside of this archetype.
Marvel Snap: Best Blob Decks
Marvel Snap’s newly released card, Blob, can be a real powerhouse. This guide can help you fit him into a deck.
Because of her seemingly negative Ability and lane-reducing Power, it can be tough to find a deck suitable for Selene. The guide below will outline the best uses of the card, some common counters to watch out for, and cards that synergize well with her Ability.

Marvel SNAP
Best Selene Decks
Selene’s Ability states “On Reveal: Afflict the lowest-Power card in each player’s hand with -3 Power.” This means that there is really only one way to play her. Ensure that her ability inflicts maximum damage to your opponent and impacts you as little as possible. For this reason, she works incredibly well when paired with cards likeThe Hood/Carnagecombo,Viper, andBlack Widow. There are a few ways to make the most of Selene, and they’ll be outlined in the decks below.
On Reveal: Afflict the lowest-Power card in each player’s hand with -3 Power.

Selene Junk Deck
This deck, like most successful Selene decks, will focus heavily on disrupting your opponent. With this deck, players should focus on filling their opponent’s hand and side of the board with trash cards. This is doable withViper*,Black Widow*,Debrii,Green Goblin, andAnnihilus.Annihiluscan be used on turn five to boot over whatever low-Power cards are still lingering on your side.
Viper can also be used to clean up your side and muddy the opponent’s by throwing cards likeSentry’s Void,The Hood, orSeleneacross the board.Shang-Chiexists as a backup plan in case the opponent outpaces your total Power in a lane with a massive card.Man-Thingcan also be used to further lower the Power of the useless cards filling the opponent’s side. This deck provides quite a few heavy-hitting synergies with Selene. Throwing down Black Widow to give your opponent a -1-Power Widow’s Bite on turn four can be a real pain for them. Throwing down Selene followed by The Hood and then kicking The Hood to the opponent’s side with Viper is also a deadly combo.

Carnageis in the deck also as a backup plan for any low-Power cards that didn’t get sent to your opponent’s side of the board. This deck’s winning strategy will see pretty low-Power across the board for the player using Selene. The ideal situation is that the opponent has an even lower total Power.
*The deck image shown above hasBlack Widowlisted as a2-Cost, 1-Power card(it is now 3-Cost, 3-Power) andViperas a2-Cost, 3-Power card(it is now 3-Cost, 4-Power) but there have been changes to these in the most recent patch. The “Deck Contents” section below has the correct stats for the mentioned cards and these changes will be noted in future Marvel Snap deck guides.

Selene Toxic Deck
This deck, like the previous one, is a Selene disrupt deck. Where the prior deck focused on using cards likeViper* and Annihilus to throw junk cards over to the opponent’s side of the board, this deck focuses on lowering the Power of your opponent’s cards. This can be accomplished by using cards likeSelene,Hazmat, EvolvedCyclops, and EvolvedThe Thing.
There are some repeat interactions between the last deck and this one, likeBlack Widow/Selenecombo or theSelene,The Hood,Vipercombo. These are great fallbacks to sucker punch your opponent’s hand, but the main focus should be lowering their cards' Power. EvolvedAbominationcan also benefit from this lowered Power and give players a good spread or Power on turn six.

Best Selene Counters
There aren’t a ton of counters for Selene. The most obvious would beCosmoas Selene’s Ability is an On Reveal one, and Cosmo cancels all On Reveal Abilities from happening in the lane where he is played.Luke Cageis another obvious counter as he stops the user’s cards from having their Power lowered, which directly contradicts Selene’s Ability. Some counters that may not be as obvious will beGreen GoblinandHobgoblin.
Since they are already some of the lowest Power cards in the game, if they reside in your opponent’s hand when Selene is played, they’re pretty much guaranteed to be the recipient of her -3 Power. This is an issue because their On Reveal Ability sends them to your side of the board when played by an opponent. This means you’re dooming yourself to a low-Power card in this situation. A good counter to this counter isAnnihilus, a card present in the first deck (Selene Junk Deck) listed.
Best Selene Synergies
Selene works well with a lot of other cards, namely disrupt cards. A full list of cards and how they interact with Selene can be found below.
Is Selene Worth It?
When thinking about the impact on the current meta, Selene is a tough card to call. It stands to reason, that with the rise of disrupt, junk, and toxic decks with cards like Martyr, Havok, and Annihilus being recently added to the game, Selene is at the height of her power in the meta right now. For this reason,it’s a decent idea to grab her while she’s aroundif you play a lot of disrupt decks or want a card that synergizes well with Annihilus, but she likely won’t have a huge impact on the current meta. There are definitely better cards in the upcoming Spotlight Caches, so if you’re low on Keys or just don’t like the alternate cards in this week’s Spotlight, it’s a good idea to skip her.
She is a Tier 5 card, which means she will cost6,000 Tokens in the Token Shopif players don’t obtain her via the Spotlight Cache. In her Spotlight week, she will be featured alongsideIron LadandBlack Knight. While Black Knight is an underwhelming card, Iron Lad is phenomenal so if he’s still missing from your collection you could grab him as well.
