Firaxis Games has released a new gameplay trailer for their turn-based fighting game, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which is entirely dedicated to The Hunter’s powers and abilities. The extensive gameplay footage gives an in-depth look at the character’s powers and how players can combine them to generate electrifying combos.

Since the previous trailer released for The Hunter focused on her emotional story, this time, the developer team provided further details on the skill cards that would determine the role of the Hunter in combat. The Power, Light, and Dark branches will be available for players from which to pick.

Each branch will feature ten skill cards for players to use in building their combat strategies, as you might expect from the division. The developer team indicated in the trailer that the light and dark branches follow the path of healing and manipulation while the power branch focuses on buffs and debuffs. Each branch will also have a unique legendary ability.

As for the skill cards themselves, the quick slash, which causes significant damage to single enemies, was the first light branch ability shown in the trailer. Each card will be able to increase its critical chance when coupled with buffs like wrath and fury. Players will apply a vulnerable attack when they use the fury card, whereas the wrath doesn’t cost a playing card and causes more damage. There is also a patience buff, requiring more heroism to deal increased damage. The initial part of the trailer dives into the light branch, whose legendary ability is to summon Charlie for two rounds, increasing the number of allies in the combat.

In addition to being a friendly dog who sprang from hell, Charlie has also two abilities called Howl and Bite. The first one applies two marks upon each enemy in an area, while the second causes significant damage to a single enemy. Aside from the legendary card, the light branch also features the bladestorm ability, which can assist players to start the duel off well.

The development team also showcased the additional skill cards that fall under the supportive category. For example, Holy Burst restores health to each ally in the area, while players can save their cards with Holy Gift, meaning the next hero card played will not be discarded when used. It is also worth pointing out that all these cards will be upgradeable.

The dark side of The Hunter focuses heavily on manipulation. One of the initial cards in the dark branch, Mindbender, tricks enemies into attacking their nearest allies. However, the most exciting part of the dark branch is its legendary ability, Annihilation, consuming all heroism to damage each enemy in an area. Do note that more heroism equals more damage, so be careful while using your cards at high heroism levels. The gameplay trailer also includes character conversations, but it is still unclear how player choices would impact the storyline.

After being delayed indefinitely,Marvel’s Midnight Sunsdoes not yet have a firm release date but will blast its way onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC in the near future.
