Blade has long been one of the most fan-beloved characters from the MCU, with his unique superhuman abilities making him stand distinctive in fans’ eyes. While his live-action adaptations to date may not done justice to him (with the titular film from 1998 andDeadpool & Wolverinebeing exceptions), Mahershala Ali is widely expected to deliver him as per fans’ expectations.

Of course, this seems likely after considering how Ali’s previous appearance inEternalswas liked by the fandom. At the same time, fans might not be able to see some elements from the original film getting materialized into this. For instance, one of the best scenes from Wesley Snipes’ film, which even led to a lawsuit, could never be recreated in this upcoming film: The Bloodbath scene!

Blade‘s Best Scene Could Never Be Recreated in Mahershala Ali’s Film

Wesley Snipes‘ originalBladefrom 1998 was unarguably widely loved by a majority of the fandom, and the mere opening scene of the film explained why. To jog your memory a bit, this scene featured a vampire woman leading her human lover to a run-down meatpacking factory where the vampires are having a party – something that eventually features them bathing in blood.

While this scene indeed looked incredibly gross, it was also one of the best-crafted scenes of the movie as it featured Snipes’ Eric Cross Brooks making his way onto the screens in a remarkably iconic way. And yet, bringing this scene to life was anything but easy for the cast and crew – especially for the extras who had to actually shoot the scene and bathe around in the blood.

In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, while breaking down the movie, Snipes shared the same:“The extras, they had to actually sit around in the blood stuff. Especially if you were one of those ones who rushed and raised your hand like, ‘I’ll be in the front! Take me!’ [Laughs] It was a tough gig. They couldn’t change during lunch, they couldn’t wipe it off, for continuity.”

That’s not all. The worst part was that this experience even turned out to be a traumatizing experience for quite a few of them since they were unaware of what would actually happen. In fact, even though it wasn’t real blood that poured on them from the sprinklers, drenching them, some of the extras even left the project after freaking out about it.

As Snipes continued to shareduring the same interview:

Some of them are still traumatized from that experience. The very first take, they knew that something was going to spill on them, but they didn’t know it was gonna be like that. And some of the people freaked out! It wasn’t real blood, it wasn’t Carrie, right? But they freaked out and left, they quit. Like, “No more.”

Well, for what it’s worth, such a reaction is actually rather understandable. After all, who would appreciate being inundated with fake blood without even being warned about it? That said, of course, fans might as wellnotexpectMahershala Ali‘s upcoming film on the anti-hero to recreate this scene, because the chances of itnot happeningare higher than it happening.

At the same time, things went a bit too far when an extra even sued New Line over this scene!

An Extra Even Filed a Lawsuit Against New Line Over the Bloodbath Scene

As baffling as watching this scene was, it was a hundred times harder for the people on set. That cult scene, shot in three days, was nothing short of“pretty gross,”as cinematographerTheo Van de Sandeunhesitantly admitted. To say the least, it even had the“yellow, very cheap rain jackets”that the crew was sporting getting battered within little to no time of the sprinklers firing blood.

In fact, things took a turn for the worse when one of the extras ended up suing New Line Cinema for an alleged skin disease he developed after shooting this scene. As de Sande shared during the same interview:“Just before the film came out, one of the extras sued New Line because he got a skin disease, he said. Of course, it’s not true because otherwise, I would be dead by now.”

But at the same time, as“horrible”as shooting this scene in the“sticky”and“smelling”place was, it was also made entertaining by“a lot really fun cool extras”who genuinely tried to enjoy the blood bath as much as the vampires did in the movie.

Nonetheless, as enjoyable as these extras may have made this scene, it was still brutal and gruesome to shoot enough to have Marvel saying a no-no to recreating it. But then again, seeing even Snipes return in the role felt impossible until it wasmade possible byRyan ReynoldsinDeadpool & Wolverine, so fans might as well not give up all hope!
