Directed by James Mangold, the deeply emotional and relatable tale of Wolverine is further amplified by its black-and-white version, which was released only in select theatres. Not only does it take the attention away from all the gory and gruesome details of the film, butLogan Noirmakes it even more humane and emotional to experience.
Back in 2017 while at the movie’s premiere, Jackman revealed the reason they decided to make a noir version of the already masterpiece of a movie (viaScreenRant),
“There was such a strong reaction to those photos in black and white, and in fact we were halfway through the movie when this was coming back, and Jim and I were like ‘wow, what a cool thing to do. Jim had kept thinking about it and as soon as the movie came out, and I think with the success of it, he then said ‘I want to do a black and white version.’ It is absolutely stunning to see it here on the big screen.”
And stunning the movie is, for not only transports the audience into the life of thehero, but makes it more personal to watch.

James Mangold, the brilliant mind behindLogan, revealed that although his decision to make the black-and-white version of the movie was moresimple and random, the director decided to go ahead trying to experiment with how a big-budget noir movie would work (viaScreenRant).

On a separate occasion (viaIndieWire), Mangold revealed why he eventually decided to go ahead with the black-and-white version,
“People are looking for things that connect to the past, things that look different, things that are new, but also old again. I think for a long time studios have had an assumption that you guys need bright colors at all times to stay amused and loud sounds to stay enthused, and I don’t think that’s true. I think audiences are getting more sophisticated and more interested in seeing creativity explored all sorts of different ways. Even if for just one night, seeing this movie this way helps people see that there’s audiences out there for a monochrome movie, for a different kind of movie in other way that’s pretty great.”
And the director isn’t wrong, for the movie did provide the audience with an incredibly beautiful experience, which even asimple Google searchwill prove.
Logancan be streamed on Disney+, while the noir version was only selectively released in theatres.
