The crew members are the backbone of theGoromaru and can help strengthen its defense and firepower. Without a strong crew, you’ll be sitting ducks relatively quickly despite the strongest weapons on your ship.

So today, I’ve compiled a list of the best crew members to get inPirate Yakuza, the ones that helped meconquer the Devil Fleet for the Dark Instrumentsand even against the Amon crew to achieve that shiny Platinum Trophy.
The ranking for each crew member is based on my personal liking of the character since, in terms of stats or benefits, they’re all great in their own right and have some recurring abilities.

Kei makes a return fromLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealthas she and the Revolve’s bartender help our amnesiac Mad Dog get settled into Hawaii.
And you guessed it, her Aloha Links also return, which are the main driving force to unlocking her as a crew member. Much to my slight annoyance with the character, her stats are actually really good.
Considering how you can get her early by focusing on getting your Aloha Links maxed out,she’s still a worthy addition due to her Ship Upkeep stat getting an S rank at min-max levels, plus she’s pretty eccentric.
A Mechanic On The Seas
First-rate Mechanic Kiwami: Increases your repair uses by 2.
Motivation: Boosts attack by a little.
Craft 3 cannons/machine guns for the Goromaru at her shop.
Like many other familiar characters fromInfinite Wealth, Julie from Julie’s Gearworks also makes her presence felt as she accompanies Majima aboard the Goromaru.
She’s the main gal to go to when you want to upgrade your ship with new weapons, and that’s also how simple it is to unlock her, as I’ve mentioned above.
An S-rating at min-max levels makes her a must-have crew mate, even though it might take you a bit of material grinding to craft three cannons/machine gunsto get to recruit her to the Goro Pirates.
10Yappi-Kun
A Cute Robot With a Bloodlust
Strenuous Effort: Boosts attack.

Yes, they actually added this jolly yet secretly bloodthirsty robot as a crewmate. I honestly thought he’d be stuck as a side character for mini-games or as the arena receptionist inYakuza: Like a Dragon.
If it wasn’t obvious with his min-maxed stats, Yappi-kun is tailor-made for your boarding crew with an S-rating in attack as he mows down enemies with his chainsaw.
If you’ve got a hefty chunk of change to spare, I strongly recommend heading to Madlantis to purchase it from the gambling vendor outside of Bar Dunghill.

If you thoroughly enjoyedInfinite Wealthas I did, you must’ve also gone through theentirety of Dondoko Island with Ichibanand fought Pirate Hook and his goons.
Well, he’s back here, and the game gives him an excellent case of a redemption story as he makes amends for his run-in with Ichiban. Majima, the compassionate soul he is, decides to recruit Hook into the Goro Pirates.
Just like Yappi-kun,Hook’s a crewmate intended for the boarding party. Despite the fact that he’s a silver rarity crew member, he surprisingly has an S-rating in attack at min-max levels.

8Chitose Buster Holmes
She Doesn’t Sugarcoat It

The comical yet power-packed Chitose Buster Holmes also makes an appearance after her previous role as a Poundmates summon.
Her Squad Leader trait makes her an invaluable option if you want to fortify your boarding crew and increase their defense when they dive into battle.
She’s got a balanced stat spread, so you’re able to adjust her anywhere. But honestly, that Defender stat, as I mentioned, is too good to pass up, especially when deciding who to place at that position.
7Fumiya Sugiura
The Skateboarding Crusader
Master of Stealth: Increases your smoke screen uses by 1.
Chivalrous Fool: Boosts attack and charges the Madness Gauge faster.
I love it when theYakuza seriessneaks inJudgmentcharacters, which also makes me want to chime in and say, “Can we please get a third game, RGG?”
Sugiura’s First Mate Trait is perhaps the weakest, and for good reason:He’s tuned to be a boarding crew member with an S-rating in both attack and defense.
I wouldn’t recommend him for the Squad Leader position either, since there are way better crewmate options with more rewarding traits than just boosting your attack and the Madness Gauge.
6Toru Higashi
Everyone’s Favorite Arcade Owner
Consideration & Admiration: Greatly Boosts Health Recovery and charges the Voltage Gauge faster.
Available for purchase fromCrazy Delivery Mini-Gamefor 15,000 Points.
The Judgment cameos don’t stop coming; Higashi’s here, and much like his role fromLike a Dragon Gaiden,he’s a healer crewmate.
That’s what makes Higashi such a great crew member, a role desperately needed in at least two or three slots if your crew wants to survive some of the endgame deck battles.
He’s also a solid choice for a Squad Leader slot since you’ll need all the health regen you’re able to get for your crew mid-battle.
Lastly, given how fun it is to play the Crazy Delivery mini-game, you should be able to rack up enough points to get him in no time flat.
5Masaharu Kaito

Natural Brawler: Boosts Defense and charges the Heat Gauge faster.
Available for purchase from theBang Bang Batting Mini-gamefor 90,000 points.
Kaito is one of my favorite characters fromRGG Studios, and if you haven’t played hisKaito FilesDLC fromLost Judgment, you’re doing yourself a disservice here.
Kaito is another great addition to the Boarding crew, mainly because he can complement the Squad Leader role alongside his buddy, Higashi.
He’s got an S-rating in defense, but if you want,you CAN fixate him on the Cannon Squad team because he also has A-ratings in both Cannon Power and Ship Upkeep.
The only slight downside is that you might need to grind the Bang Bang Batting mini-game a bit before you have the necessary points to purchase him.

Time for a little academic dishonesty.
4Nishida & Minami
Sink King Kiwami: Greatly increases the damage done to enemy sterns.
Indomitable Will Bonded: Greatly boosts Health Recovery and adds shock resistance.
Martial Soul Bonded: Greatly boosts attack and adds burn resistance.
Automatically join your crew in Chapter 3.
The reason I’ve included both Nishida and Minami in one entry is solelybecause of how you unlock them both at the same time during the main story events of chapter 3.
Seeing these two in the preview footage of Pirate Yakuza before its release made me ecstatic because of how close they were to Majima and since we hadn’t seen Minami since Yakuza 4.
The best part isthat they both have S-rating stats across the board at min-max levels, meaning you’re able to insert them into any teamyou wish to make the Goromaru feel stronger.
I personally kept Minami as my First Mate due to his Sink King Kiwami trait and Nishida on the boarding crew due to his healing properties.
A Dish Best Served Cold

At one point during the end of the Devil Fleets storyline, Misaki will get kidnapped, so you’ll need to temporarily fill in her position in the crew until you get her back.
Misaki joins the Goro Pirates to avenge her father and Jason’s old friend, Namioka. She’s easily one of the best characters to have on your Cannon Squad due to her min-max stats.
She has an S-rating in both Cannon Power and Ship Upkeep, but you CAN substitute her for the boarding crew, even though I’d personally advise against it.
Overall, you’ll want to have her at all costs for the endgame ship battles due to her high stat value despite her leaving the crew for a short while.
