League of Legends' latest support character is just plain adorable. The young boy hails from Ixtal, one of Runeterra’s more recently revealed nations. Through him, we’ve learned a bit more about how the nation of Ixtal is laid out — and what it takes to be a part of its ruling class.

The young elementalist may be a powerful in-game healer, but it turns out he’s just as powerful in-universe as well, and his grandmother has big plans for his future.

Early Training Arc

Milio began training his abilities with hisgrandmother, Lupé, as soon as he was old enough. Lupé had been waiting for a member of the family to show the natural talent forelemental magicthat she once had, and Milio was the first member of the family to show that promise. She trained him to master working water, earth, and air, but she refused to teach her grandson to utilize fire.

Unfortunately, Lupé grew disappointed in her grandson’s lack of perfection. As he continued to make mistakes, she continued to grow disheartened, and rather than being patient with him, she soon stopped teaching him, giving up on him entirely. Milio wasn’t discouraged, though — he kept working, practicing nonstop until he had greatly improved his skills and even began tomaster fireon his own. He believed that there wasmore to the elementsthan their destructive nature, and he kept practicing with it until, eventually, he proved his theory.

The Birth Of The Fuemigos

Still a kid,Milio was chasing firefliesone night when he stumbled upon one of the huntresses from his village who was badly injured. He managed to stabilize her, but she was still fading. He realized that it would take quite some time for the village healer to reach them, so he took matters into his own hands. He reached deep inside himself to summon the latent abilities there and make them into something that couldheal her. He was able to tap into theinner flameinherent in all living things — including the injured huntress. Before long, he was able to summon a fire elemental that could heal her through her inner flame, and the huntress was on the mend.

He rushed home and told his family about his new “fuemigos,” the small fire elementals that he could now create and through which he could utilize his “soothing flame.” For the most part, they were proud of him; but once again, all his grandmother could see was the potential and what Milio could become with more training. She was solely focused on how she could use her grandson’s abilities to help herself, not on how he could use them for the greater good.

Connections To The Yun Tal

Milio’s grandmother and her twin sister, Luné, both journeyed as young women to join theYun Tal, the ruling caste of the nation of Ixtal. The members of this group are Ixtal’s mostpowerful elementalists, tasked with protecting the nation’s secrets and guarding it against outside threats. Unfortunately, Luné seemed to have other plans; she was secretly plotting tocommit treasonagainst the Yun Tal, and as a result, she was imprisoned, and her sister Lupé was exiled to a village on the outskirts of the nation.

Lupé has now instilled her dream in Milio. At the young age of twelve, Milio began his journey toIxaocan, the capital of Ixtal, where he will undergo Yun Tal’s set of trials to join their ranks. These trials are issued by a powerful artifact known as theVidallion, which hangs above the Yun Tal’s meeting chambers. Milio became a bit of a legend before he even reached Ixaocan, primarily for his healing abilities. Along his journey, he even encounteredNidaleeafter he healed one of her injured cougars. He traveled with her for a while until they eventually parted ways.

Milio’s official full body character art

Milio’s story intertwines with Nidalee’s, but apart from her, he has very little connection to the other existing League champs — even those from Ixtal itself. Still, I can’t wait to see what lore they release next; his interactions with Neeko, in particular, are sure to be fascinating, and hopefully, as a member of the Yun Tal, Qiyana will take a shine to him.
