Baldur’s Gate 3is jam-packed full of exciting adventures, a diverse rag-tag group of misfit heroes, and hours of turn-based combat that keepD&Dfans firmly glued to their seats. Even though that’s usually enough to keep players happy for days on end and prolonged episodes of touching any grass, there is one key element in BG3 that draws a different crowd and that’s, of course, its rampant horniness.
Whether you want to romance Karlach, Astarion, or Shadowheart, that’s completely up to you, butLarian Studios' director has an idea about why BG3’s Forgotten Realms is such a frisky game and he thinks it’s all down to Covid.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Minthara Actor Discusses Character’s Hidden Depth And Early Access Appearance
Baldur’s Gate 3’s actor Emma Gregory talks about how Minthara isn’t “just a one-dimensional, evil killing machine.”
In an interview withGame Pressure, the developers from Larian Studios, as well as its CEO, Swen Vincke, popped in for a chat about Baldur’s Gate 3 where everything from Monty Python, the difficulties of lockdown to BG3’s script and how it kept its identity was discussed. In between all of these important topics, the question naturally arose about the game’s raunchiness and why the team thought it became one of the horniest games around.

“Covid”, replied Vincke, maybe semi-jokingly, but he probably does have a point here. As we all know, throughout the lockdown period, many were unable to be with their family and friends, losing out on vital human connections, and for many of us, being homebound meant powering up our PCs or consoles. In the period since, many players still seek out that bond. Vincke echoes this by saying that he believes “that people get so engaged in companionship” and that “it’s a testament to the work of the team that’s been doing it. They want to romance them.”
Vincke also says that, because the characters are so diverse, there’s something for everyone when it comes to being able to relate to a certain character, so that brings with it a bigger pool of players too. “If they romance them, then that’s going to take them to places because it’s a mature game and I think that’s perfectly okay. That became much bigger than we expected.”

However, he never dreamed that Baldur’s Gate 3 would reach the level it has now in terms of being a “horny game”. “I never considered the game to be that horny. We wanted to do romance for the companions, but it wasn’t intended to be horny, it was intended to be mature.”
As for Larian Studios, the team seems to be going from strength to strength as they start work on theirnext projectas well as opening a new studio in Poland.
