James Gunn’s Lanterns seems to be aiming to have a particular story in mind, one that might go back to Jon Stewart’s introduction in the comics. However, seeing that Green Lantern might be stuck on Earth for this particular show, there is one team-up from the comics that might be on the cards for Hal Jordan, apart from his new recruit Jon Stewart.

Among the many team-ups that Hal Jordan has had in the comics, one stands out to fans and fits into James Gunn’s tone for the DCU. If Superman, which is seemingly stuffed with characters to the brink, is any indication about what’s to come, Lanterns might introduce a character that has nothing to do with Green Lantern’s mythos but is an integral part of Hal Jordan’s story.
Green Lantern could team up with Green Arrow in Lanterns
Green Arrow has had quite a few collaborations with Green Lantern. While there is no comparison between the power levels that each belongs to, the collaboration remains one of the most iconic runs of comics in the DCU. While Hal Jordan is busy mentoring Jon Stewart through murder, he could enlist the help of someone who has more eyes on the street, in the form of Green Arrow.

Green Arrow could also ground the military man Jon Stewart, by allowing him to survey the streets, rather than making him look at the big picture, which he might have gotten used to. Hal Jordan has had some iconic runs as Green Lantern with Olive Queen, dealing with social and political issues, which might take center stage in a series like Lanterns.
Jon Stewart’s first mission could be his introductory tale from the comics
Jon Stewart’s maiden mission with Hal Jordan had a very rocky start. The characters were assigned, along with Jordan, to look after particularly racist politicians as his bodyguards. However, Stewart would go on the embarrass Jordan and also refuse to help the politician when he is being shot at by his would-be assassin. Upon being reprimanded by Hal Jordan, Stewart reveals that the politician was under no threat at all, given that the latter had planted the assassin himself for political leverage.

While this was fairly resolved in a single issue, the conspiracy and ideas behind the story could make for some larger story beats in the DCU, possibly allowing James Gunn to flesh out the entire Lanterns TV series. The Green Arrow could be assigned to take over from the Lanterns.
