How to Find Food for Hans
The first objective of the Hunger and Despair quest is toget some food forCapon.
Speak to Janosh inside the downstairs dining area and ask him for some food, which he’ll refuse to give any due to low supplies.
The Dry Devil will interrupt your conversation and tell you that you canget food by killing the dog.
If you don’t want to kill the dog because you have human feelings, don’t worry.There’sanother way to get food for Hans.
Making Shoe Soup
Speak to Musa, Godwin, Sam, and Kubyenka who will joke about turning shoes into soup. Due to the group’s growing starvation, they are willing to try anything, so now it’s up to Henry tofind Lady Frenzl’s shoes.
Make your way to Lady Frenzl’s room on thetop floor of the castle, indicated by an optional waypoint, and search the chest inside to grab the shoes.
Keep in mind that thechest’s lockpicking difficulty is hard.
Once you have the shoes, return to Musa and the others to turn the shoes into soup and then deliver it to Hans. Once you hand over the shoe soup, the funeral will begin.
Making Dog Soup
If you decide to get food for Hans by killing the dog, all it takes is a few swings of a sword or one arrow to kill it.
You canfind the dog in the northern area of Suchdol,shown in the image attached. Kill it, butcher its meat, and then return to the Dry Devil to hand it over.
The Dry Devil will turn it into Stray Dog Soup for Hans and for you.
Return to Hans and hand over the Stray Dog Soup to help with his hunger. Once you hand over the food, the funeral for the fallen comrades will begin.
Defending the Suchdol Battlements
During the funeral, you take control of Godwin who is giving a speech for the fallen soldiers.
All thedialogue checks here are labeled as easy, making it simple to give a good speech.Choose whichever dialogue options you like as none of them change the outcome of the mission.
Midway through the funeral, Suchdol gets attacked yet again, and it’s up to Henry and his allies to defend the battlements.
Rush up to the top of the castle andgrab the Halberd (Voulge)leaning up against the wall. Use this toknock down four ladders, while fending off the soldiers who have made it inside.

Fortune favors the bold, but she’s apathetic to your fingers.
After knocking down four ladders with the Halberd, a cutscene will begin showing Hans getting shot at from inside the tower. The enemy has made it inside, so Hans sends Henry to defeat them.
Rush inside the tower andkill the men on the lower floor first, then the men on the upstairs level. After they’re dead, the next main objective is to knock the ladders down from the rear wall.
Head to the waypoint leading to the rear wall anduse your Halberd to knock down two laddersto end the objective.
Saying Your Goodbyes
After a brief cutscene about the next steps in the plan, you’re tasked with saying goodbye to all your allies before heading to the ramparts with Samuel. Henry thinks this may be the last time he gets to speak to them.
Speak to Hans, Zizka, and Katherine and say your farewells to continue on with the quest.Speak to Katherine twice if you want her to heal all your woundsandfill that health bar back up.
Lastly, go to the ramparts and select the option to wait. Selecting the option to wait will lead to a cutscene and the final moments of the Hunger and Despair quest inKingdom Come Deliverance 2.
