Kaido is undoubtedly one of the most fearsome figures in theOne Pieceworld. So much that even when he had deliberately wished to harm himself, he failed. Even jumping off the Sky Island did not manage to kill him. But it is without a question that Kaido wanted to go out with honor. He challenged the strongest to battle wishing that they could have an epic fight to the death.

One such opponent that Kaido faced was the samurai daimyo. Kaido had an unrivaled respect for Kozuki Oden who was a member of Gol D. Roger’s crew. Kaido fought Roger himself and still held Oden in higher regard than him. This admiration stemmed from Oden’s unmatched strength, unshakable resolve, and willingness to die in battle, a sentiment that Kaido shared.
Oden and Zoro could be said to be similar as they are both from samurai families. Despite Zoro’s extraordinary progress as a swordsman, with him having mastered the three-sword style and obtained Conquerer’s Haki it is still not enough. Zoro, with all his feats, still hasn’t surpassed Oden’s legendary feats.

Oden was an unmatched legendary samurai
Kouzuki Oden was the daimyo of Kuri in Wano Country. He was also the son of the former shogun Kouzuki Sukiyaki, a member of the Kouzuki Family. He was next in line to succeed the title of shogun of the Wano Country.
Additionally, Oden was the leader of a group of legendary and powerful samurai known as the Nine Red Scabbards, and all of them served as his most trusted allies.

Oden set out to sea and became a pirate, the start of every epic tale. He first served as the 2nd division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and later became a member of the Roger Pirates. He was part of Roger’s crew when they found Joy Boy’s treasure on Laugh Tale. He was one of the strongest members on board.

When Oden journeyed home and made it his goal to open Wano’s borders to the world by becoming the shogun, he saw that his country was being forcefully taken over. This was whenhe fought the pirate Kaidou, who executed him 20 years before the presentOne Piecetime, in an event known as the ‘Legendary Hour.’
Zoro is on the path to greatness but not there yet
Zoro has proven himself as a formidable swordsman throughout the One Piece series. During his journey alongside Luffy,Zoro showcases incredible feats, such as his battle against King and his mastery over Enma. By learning to channel Conqueror’s Haki, Zoro has stepped closer to Oden’s skill level.
Kaido’s respect for Oden wasn’t just rooted in his strength and swordsmanship. Oden’s fearless determination during his execution wasshocking to Kaidoas he saw Oden stand without a scream as he withstood boiling oil to save his comrades. Zoro is strong and determined, but Oden trumps his abilities.

One Piece: Real Reason Why Shanks Didn’t Avenge Oden Has Been Made Clear by Oda from the Start
Zoro definitely has the potential to grow further. His resolve, determination, and growing Haki abilities suggest that he is on his way to matching and possibly surpassing Oden. However, it will take time and effort.
