Just yesterday, word broke outthat Sony was looking to acquire Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company ofElden Ringdeveloper, FromSoftware Inc. While Sony has remaind mum on the subject, Kadokawa has officially acknowledged it today.
In a statement released by Kadokawa CEO Takeshi Natsuno, the company acknowledged that they have received a letter of intent from Sony, though no decision has been made at this time.

Top 10 Best Optional Elden Ring Bosses
Be warned, one of them has never known defeat.
For now, gamers will need to wait whether something comes out of this or not. As a gamer with no platform allegiance, my hope is if Sony does indeed manage to acquire Kadokawa, that they won’t limit FromSoftware’s releases to just PlayStation platforms. While Sonyhasn’t kept Bungiefrom releasing Destiny 2 expansions on other platforms, that game is a live service, one that requires a huge player base to exist.
In regard to FromSoftware’s future releases, chances are it’ll once again be focused on single-player gameplay, which Sony might lock down with platform exclusivity to incentivize players further to jump ship to its console ecosystem. Sony did release LEGO Horizon Adventures on PC and the Nintendo Switch, though oddly not on Xbox. If I’m Microsoft, I would be looking at ways to ensure Sony doesn’t do what most people think it’ll do.

Remember, Kadokawa also owns a sizable catalog of anime shows, so Sony could consider adding those to its Crunchyroll streaming service as another incentive to acquire FromSoftware’s parent company.
Would you want Sony to acquire Kadokawa? If so, are you worried that future FromSoftware games will be exclusive to PlayStation platforms?
