From being pigeonholed into a particular character archetype to a slew of recent failures, life’s not all good for Dwayne Johnson. The WWE star has enjoyed massive popularity when it comes to his fighting skills in the ring and even his stint in Hollywood. However, the actor has found himself in hot waters lately, with his movies failing to garner enough support at the box office.

Is it character fatigue, bad movie choices, or something else entirely? Who knows. On the other hand, Johnson’s much-awaited sequelMoana 2is making waves at the box office. Intriguingly, people are not talking about it as much as they do, about the box office bombs.
Dwayne Johnson’sMoana 2crosses the $700 million milestone
After a smashing run at the box office with the animated featureMoana, no wonder Disney aspired to spawn a sequel of the same. With a heartfelt story about a young girl who wishes to explore life and the world beyond their reef, Moana managed to steal the hearts of the entire Disney fandom.
The movie further presented a new take on the princess trope as Moana proved to be resourceful, independent, and stubborn in her resolve, aspects that were entirely missing in the previous Disney princesses.

Dwayne Johnson voiced the iconic Mauiin the animated flick, as he reprised his role in the sequel as well as in the upcoming live-action adaptation. Recently,Moana 2surpassed a crucial milestone and managed to garnerover$717 million worldwide at the box office.
Given themassive stature of this collectionand the unbelievable performance of the movie, fans are wondering why nobody is talking about this feat.

It’s literally a kids movie lmaoo… don’t you people have lil sisters? Like that’s the only thing that they are talking about
The majority of people that are seeing this movie are children, taken by their parents who more than likely are not on twitter

7 year olds don’t tend to discuss cinematography in great detail
I mean not really. The target audience isn’t on Twitter. Also there’s not really anything to discuss. It’s not a film that leaves you with a lot to breakdown or analyse lol.

While some people believe it could be because the target audience of the film is basically the younger generation, others call for at least some buzz since$700 million is not a small numberfor a film made with a budget of $150 million. The possible explanation is kids pulling their parents to the theatres to experience the movie on the big screen and parents being unable to say no. Hence,Moana 2is riding the success wave high.
Moreover, there aren’t many tropes or nuances of the movie to be discussed from the movie which otherwise makes for great discussions on social media.
Dwayne Johnson needs a change of pace
Johnson recently suffered a blow with the failure ofRed One, a Christmas-themed flick that should have worked wonders considering it also starred Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons. The flick only collected $32 million against the massive budget of $250 million and landed straight on the streaming platform Prime Video.

Fans are perhaps tired of seeing the actor play the same role time and again, the macho one-man army who reluctantly teams up with other people to achieve a collective goal. Johnson needs a hard refresh in terms of the characters he chooses to play. His filmography is flush with comedy and action, with fans urging him to stepoutside his comfort zoneand try his hands at something new. Perhaps that will help the actor garner a wider fanbase.
