Takaya Imamura was on a legendary run when he worked at Nintendo but he regrets working on one particular game. Imamura was always fond of video games so working 1991’sThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Pastwas something he hated. The video game designer once explained that he wanted to experience it as a player.

Today, when Imamura tries to play the game, it brings back all the bad memories as working on the game was quite hectic for the designer. He worked at Nintendo for 32 years, working on games likeF-Zero X,The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask,andDonkey Kong.

Recently, video game designer Takaya Imamura appeared for an interview withGamesRadarto talk about his time at Nintendo. During the conversation, Imamura explained he wasn’t too pleased about working onThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past,
To tell the truth, when I was asked to help out on the Zelda team, I wasn’t too pleased about it – I didn’t really want to, and the reason was because I wanted to enjoy the game when it was finished, as a player. I can remember that feeling even now.

Imamura has worked on various Nintendo franchises such asF-ZeroandLegend of Zelda. He also revealed that Nintendo once again called him to work on the next game thanks to the success ofA Link to the Past. Once again, he couldn’t experience it as a player.

A Link to the Pastis considered one of the greatest video games created by Nintendo, with all the praises focusing on its innovative gameplay and graphics. Its direct sequel,The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, was released for Nintendo 3DS in 2013.
Working onA Link to the Pastwasn’t an easy task for Takaya Imamura
Further in the interview, Imamura explained that they had to play the same part of the games over and over again since the debugging process was so difficult. He said,
I also remember that the debugging, the QA, was really tough, having to do the same thing over and over again. I still really don’t want to play that game – the testing was that difficult. Even now, if I just jump into the game for a minute or so, the feeling comes back. It’s like PTSD or something.

Unfortunately, the game that Imamura was so excited to play turned out to be a bad memory for him. In January 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Imamura left Nintendo after 32 years.

After Nintendo, Imamura created a manga calledOmega 6. Now, he is working on a video game adaptation of the manga calledOmega 6 The Video Game. As per the Japanese website4gamer, the game would be a retro-styled adventure title.
