As Ryan Reynolds’ highly anticipatedDeadpool & Wolverineprepares to hit the theatres, fans can expect the nostalgic return of Hugh Jackman as the clawed mutant. Apart from the main cast of the film, Marvel has also prepared tons of alleged cameos in the movie. But sadly, one actor who previously appeared inDeadpool 2, and was expected to be a part of the upcoming sequel, has confirmed his absence.
Well, it’s none other than theAvengers: Endgameactor Josh Brolin, who was expected to reprise his role as Cable in the third installment. But unfortunately, it seems Marvel has different plans for the actor. Despite being listed on the film’sIMDbpage, and willing to appear in the movie, Brolin addressed why Marvel had no plans for his return.

Navigating from Marvel’sDeadpool 2in 2018 to MCU’sAvengers: Endgamein 2019, Josh Brolin has created quite a resume surrounding Marvel projects. However despite his experience in playing anti-hero roles, this time, Marvel seems to have ditched the actor for Ryan Reynolds’ upcomingDeadpool & Wolverine(2024).

Previously, Josh Brolin appeared as Cable inRyan Reynolds‘ secondDeadpoolinstallment, alongside Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa, Leslie Uggams’ Blind Al, and Karan Soni’s Dopinder. Unfortunately, while all those familiar faces from the prequels make their way intoRyan Reynolds’Deadpool & Wolverine,it’s only Brolin who gets left out.
Recently speaking with theBingeworthy TV podcastviaThe Playlist, Josh Brolin addressed how he is listed onDeadpool & Wolverine’s IMDb page, and yet hasn’t been contacted by Marvel bosses. Claiming that he wanted to reprise his role, Brolin noted that Marvel Studios never really asked him to return alongside his other OG castmates.
“Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie… [Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than ‘Outer Range’ will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with — the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”
Hinting at the internal conflicts followingDisney’s acquisition of Fox, Josh Brolin implied that with the MCU being involved anything can happen, because they are playing around with the Marvel multiverse.

FollowingJosh Brolin’s interview, it’s unclear if Marvel Studios specifically wanted to steer clear of Cable or if there just wasn’t room for him in the story for Ryan Reynolds’Deadpool & Wolverine. Well, we will never know what actually happened and why theAvengers: Endgameactor was simply kicked out from the third installment.

However, fans of the actor and theDeadpoolfranchise aren’t the ones to sit tight over Marvel’s decision. Although a major portion of filming forDeadpool & Wolverinehas been completed, netizens urgedKevin Feigeto cast Josh Brolin as Cable in the upcoming sequel. Since other characters from the previousDeadpoolmovies are returning, fans don’t see why Brolin was particularly ditched.
