The script for Justice League did evolve out of that. I’ll be honest, the original script was much darker and weirder, and then when ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ came out, and the studio was like, ‘It’s not funny enough, people want funnier movies, they want funny stuff in it.’
His original vision for the film did not materialize because the studio wanted to make it as enjoyable asThe Avengers, but he tried to keep some of the significant scenes as they were.
We did go back and kind of lightened the movie overall, and I would say my cut of ‘Justice League’ is a sort of in-between… I always preserved some of the more intense stuff that I shot anyway, I thought they would, in retrospect, maybe want—making sure, of course, I got what was on the page.
Snyder admitted not being the funniest person in the world and that he and screenwriter Chris Terrio are “not like awesome joke writers” but he thinks “it’s classic studio Hollywood process” to tell filmmakers to make some amendments to their works.
He left the project after a family tragedy that occurred while they were still deep in production. Despite this, he was still credited as the director.Justice Leaguewas not able to bring the studio enough profit, and hence was deemed a box office flop.
