Will Smith’s life has not been the same since the infamous slap heard around the world. The actor had what was supposed to be the greatest moment in his career turn into a controversy that has not gotten off his back since then. TheKing Richardstar slapped Chris Rock on the Oscars stage in 2022 and went on to win Best Actor on the same night.

Smith’s slap was preceded by Rock making a joke about the former’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia. As a funny retaliation of sorts for going after a comedian, stand-up comic Andrew Schulz put out a brutal roast, making so many jokes about Smith and Pinkett Smith that the actor would have wished he moved on from Chris Rock’s ‘GI Jane’ joke.

Will Smith’sBad Boys: Ride or DieMay Have Made A Subtle Slapgate Reference
Since the 2022 Oscars slap,Will Smithhas been trying hard to get back to his previous stardom. In line with the legacy theme of the four-quel,GQpointed out that the film might have given a subtle reference to the slap in the film. At a critical juncture in the film, Smith’s character seems to have a panic attack and goes into a dream state where he sees visions and surreal imagery. However, Martin Lawrence immediately slaps him back into reality.
GQ mentioned that the incident with Lawrence slapping Smith multiple times drew a lot of laughs in the theaters and theorized that it might have been a reference to Slapgate. The film’s success has been seen as proof that Smith’s controversy and ban from the Academy Awards has not affected his box office clout.
