Hidetaka Miyazaki is a very well-known figure in gaming right now. He is particularly famous for directing the insanely popular Soulslike seriesDark Souls. He also directedBloodborne, which was a PlayStation 4 exclusive horror soulslike, and Sekiro, which was more of a stealth action game than a soulslike. The best part about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games is that they are never easy to play.

Pretty much every game that he has worked on over time has been very challenging. In fact, their recently released game, titledElden Ring, was also pretty hard, albeit more inviting to new gamers. As he develops such a high number of hard games, one can’t help but wonder what game he loves playing the most, and the answer is pretty surprising indeed.

Elden Ringdirector Hidetaka Miyazaki reveals the name of the game he would love to play

After starting his journey in video game development withDemon’s Souls,Hidetaka Miyazakiquickly made a name for himself. This was all thanks to the unexpected success of Demon’s Souls, a game that was at first touted as a failure but ended up becoming incredibly successful.

He then went on to develop the first game in theDark Soulsfranchise. This was even more successful thanDemon’s Souls. This game took most of its inspiration fromDemon’s Soulsonly; the combat style was similar but refined, and the world was darker.

Then he was approached by Sony’s Japan Studio to co-develop an unusually new game. It was codenamed Project Beast, and it was set in a Victorian-era city called Yharnam. A drastic shift fromDemon’s SoulstoDark Souls, in visuals, feel, music, and everything else. Its combat was also very different.

While in Souls games players could play defensive by hiding behind their shields,Bloodborneencouraged them to be offensive. They could attack, dodge, and attack again. They changed the game so much, and they implemented the ideas of a horror game into soulslike formula, makingBloodbornetheir most unique game to date.

He even suggested that he wishes he could go back and makeBloodbornea bit better. Hence, when fans asked him about his favorite game, the one that he would love to give a try, his answer was expected to beBloodborne.Butit turns out it wasElden Ring!

“If I was in the mood to play a game, or if I had an ideal game world, Elden Ring gets pretty close to that. I create the games that are my type: tight combat, fantasy medieval settings, with dungeons to explore and things like that. It’s just what I’m into. And so Elden Ring is really hitting all the right notes there.”

Then he went on to clarify that even if he wanted to, he would probably never play it. He has a policy of not playing games that he works on. One cannot help but wonder if he ever plays any games other than the ones he worked on.
