Interestingly, it appears the scene hit too close to home for Josh Radnor in real life, but unlike the show, he did act on his feelings in real life.
Back in 2021, theHow I Met Your Motherstar moved to his parent’s house in Columbus, which, he later revealed, was partly motivated by his real-life split-up and a bunch of other factors.

Although in the show, Ted reverts from his decision to move away and does attend Robin and Barney’s wedding,Josh Radnordid move away from LA after his breakup around Thanksgiving in 2021. Considering his ex was living at his house until June, moving back wasn’t an option, and fortunately for theLiberal Artsstar, his childhood home was empty at that time of the year. With nowhere to go, he and his dog moved to Columbus, which allowed him to nurse his wounds.

My ex was at my house until June. So I was in exile from LA. I didn’t have a spot to go. And my parents always spend the winter in California with my older sister and her family. So my childhood home was empty and, not knowing where to go, I just went to Columbus and brought my dog Nelson and I was hunkered down. I was seeing people and I have another sister who lives there so I was connecting with old friends and nursing my wounds.
However, Radnor’s breakup wasn’t the lone reason that contributed to his escape from L.A., as there were also numerous other complicated factors, which he didn’t delve into.
Josh Radnor’s Stay in Columbus led to the creation of his full-length album
Not only did Radnor’s escape from L.A. allow him to regroup with his old friends, but it eventually led to him creating his full-length albumEulogy: Volume 1. During this period, he met his songwriter friend Kyle Cox, and after Cox asked Radnor to recordhis songs, as the actor“had a suitcase full of songs”, the work on his album began.
We just thought maybe we’d work on an EP, like, let’s just get some music down. So I went to Nashville, I took my dad’s car, me and Nelson went to Nashville, got an Airbnb in East Nashville. And we, with our friends, Jeremiah Dunlap and Corey Quintard, converted the Airbnb into a studio and I was there for a month.
While the album was recorded in the wake of his breakup, the actor isn’t exactly sure if one could properly call it a breakup album, even though he believes it kind of is.
