Planet Eater Moro is the undisputed GOAT ofDragon Ball Super, both literally and figuratively. The scene where Goku first sensed his Ki signature in a Galactic Patrol spaceship is one ofDragon Ball‘s coldest introductions to a villain. Goku remarked that his Ki isn’t that huge but it was terrifying, but he felt quite uneasy. It was as if a whole lot of people were screaming in pain.
Later, it was revealed that Moro stole Ki from various people to keep himself alive. In fact, that is how he gets his strength from. He’s not a traditional martial artist but more of a magician. He uses magic to manipulate the energy of people and planets itself to attack his opponent, and the more energy he eats, the stronger he gets. He even stole so much of Goku and Vegeta’s Ki that they ran out of energy to transform, rendering them motionless. That’s how much of an anomaly Moro was.
Why is Moro regarded as the best villain ofDragon Ball Super?
Dragon Ball Superhas its own share of memorable villains that stand the test of time. The antagonist for the 1st arc was Beerus. He wasn’t much of a villain per se so he can be ruled out. Frieza was more of aDragon Ball Zvillain so he can be ruled out as well. The Universe 6 Saga offered Hit and Champa, who were Goku’s antagonists rather than villains.

But a real villain showed up in the Future Trunks arc in the form of Goku Black. Zamasu was a formidable foe and it took Zeno-sama to actually finish him off. The arc started off pretty strong and had interesting mysteries for the heroes to unravel. But the ending turned out to be controversial.
Jiren, again, wasn’t really a villain, so he can be taken off the list. Even if he was, his backstory sucked, and he had nothing else going on for him other than strength. That leaves fans with Moro, who was evil and had creative abilities to render his opponents useless. The stronger his opponent was, the better it was for him to steal their energy. And he didn’t have limitations like Androids have in stealing energy.
Is the Dragon Ball Super Manga Better Than Anime?
He literally took the energy of planet Namek and used it against Goku and Vegeta. Moro was initially dominated by Super Saiyan God Vegeta but it took Ultra Instinct Goku’s Ki avatar to finally take him down. Zamasu still wanted the Gods to rule but Moro wanted nobody else to rule other than him.
The concept behind Moro’s creation and his mythical origins
During an interview with the creator of theDragon Ball Supermanga, Toyotarou affirmed that he created Moro not with the intention of redeeming later on. In fact, Goku tried to reason with him but the GOAT didn’t budge. Hence, the mangaka created a pure-evil character in Moro, just like King Piccolo.
For Moro’s design, I was envisioning pure evil. I didn’t want the villain of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc to be someone who it seemed like might become ally afterward, but rather an enemy who absolutely had to be defeated. I wanted everyone to think, “We gotta beat this guy!” after getting one look at him, like the original Demon King Piccolo.
Regarding Moro’s character design, Toyotarou explains that he used goats, which are a common visual motif for Western demons, as a base. The manga’s creator truly intended to make a villainous character since his attire is reminiscent of the grim reaper’s. So it was easy for fans to recognize that “Here’s a guy who is too dangerous to be left alive.”
