David Lynch Roasts George Clooney and Harrison Ford While Explaining His John Ford Cameo
David Lynch made a surprising appearance towards the end of Steven Spielberg’s 2022 filmThe Fabelmans.In the film, which is inspired by Spielberg’s own journey as a young filmmaker, Lynch plays another legendary director John Ford who gives the young Sammy Fabelman some advice about directing (which happened to Spielberg).
Lynch talked toEmpireabout what made him accept the role (which hilariously turned out to be a bag of Cheetos) while also revealing that he liked the scene despite not wanting to do it at first. He also ridiculed veteran actors likeGeorge ClooneyandHarrison Fordby saying that he wanted to give their careers a chance. He told the outlet,

“At first I didn’t want to do it. And the reason is, when it comes to acting, I’ve purposely tried to stay away from it, giving the likes of Harrison Ford and George Clooney a chance at their careers…Well, Cheetos, number one, I love them.
And any chance I can, I get them. But I know that they’re not exactly health food. So when I do leave the house and I get a chance to… But I don’t get them that often, honestly. If I do get them, I want a big bag.”

Lynch’s amazing sense of humor is evident in his comments and the director often infuses them in his films also. His cameo in the film was a great and hilarious one and Spielberg did a great job by casting him in the role.

Laura Dern Encouraged David Lynch to Do The Cameo inThe Fabelmans
Actress Laura Dern worked withDavid Lynchin three of his films includingWild at Heart, Blue Velvet,andInland Empire. When director Steven Spielberg wanted the legendary director to play John Ford inThe Fabelmans, Dern encouraged Lynch to accept the part. Dern also worked with Spielberg on theJurassic Parkfilms.

Lynch talked to Empire magazine about how Dern told him to accept Spielberg’s proposal. Lynch further revealed that Spielberg talked him into the role and he finally accepted to do a cameo. He said, (viaSlashFilm)
“She’s a special person in my life. She encouraged me to do it. She thought that it would be very enjoyable, and it turned out to be very enjoyable. I thought that Peter Bogdanovich would be better for it. But Steven said no. He said, ‘David, you’re the one to do it.’ And so he talked me into it, really.”
The director has not made a film since 2006’sInland Empireand seeing him in a hilarious cameo was a great sight for fans of the director. He really nailed the look and persona of the great director in his short cameo.
