Although appearing as MCU’s web crawler catapultedTom Holland’s fame turning him into one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, the actor has his fair share of rejections. Despite starring in superhero flicks and critically acclaimed films and shows, Holland once faced brutal rejection from Lucasfilm.

Recalling the time when he auditioned for John Boyega’s role inStar Wars, Tom Holland noted how he failed to impress with his skills. Speaking withBackstage, the actor admitted to blowing off his audition.

Holland failed to impress during his Star Wars audition

“I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny.”

Revealing how he laughed throughout the audition and failed to stay serious, Tom Holland noted that’s how he lost the opportunity. “I felt really bad because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.” Holland shared.

But certainly, he wasn’t the only Marvel actor who was rejected byStar Wars, there are two more.

Brie Larson

Veteran actorKurt Russell, famously known for his involvement in cult classic movies and acclaimed projects, portrayed Ego inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. “I was actually in the final running, but I needed to give an answer to ABC to do a Western show. I asked George [Lucas], ‘Do you think you’re going to use me?’ He said, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to put you with him, or him, or those two guys.’… I gotta go to work, so I do the Western.” Russell toldUSA Today.

Similarly, another MCU actorBrie Larsontried her luck in Lucasfilm’sStar Wars. Recalling her string of failed auditions, Larson discussed all the projects that turned her down, via herYouTubechannel.

“I didn’t get Gossip Girl and I’m really glad,” she said. “I auditioned for Hunger Games and I didn’t get it, I auditioned for Tomorrowland and I didn’t get it, I auditioned for all the new Star Wars and I didn’t get it.”

Although it might seem unfortunate for the MCU actors who lost their billion-dollar opportunities to appear inStar Wars, there’s always a silver lining. Perhaps, losingStar Warsis what paved their path towards Marvel and global fame.
