At the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming event in Adelaide (viaNZHerald), Travolta revealed that he was given full creative freedom over the character of Vincent Vega. It was only whenQuentin Tarantinosat in the editing room that he freaked out that the film had become a bloody, funny mess!
Sometimes he [Tarantino didn’t even know what I was doing, he trusted me that much. He said, ‘I’ll figure it out in the edit room. I’m sure John is making sense in the way that he’s playing this’. And when he put it together in the edit room, he said, ‘I didn’t know I made a comedy! You made Pulp Fiction a comedy!’
However, John Travolta quickly explained the reason why he introduced these comedic scenes and dialogues and it made sense.
I said, ‘I had to because there were so many horrifying things happening in it. I’m blowing up this guy’s head and there’s blood all over my face and I wanted to balance that with humour’.
Well, casting John Travolta in the role of Vincent Vega was indeed the right choice but originally, Quentin Tarantino had someone else in mind. Travolta’s career was at an all-time low when he was called by Tarantino to come over to his house.

There’s nothing to hide for Travolta as the actor was indeed facing a career-ending year before he revived it withPulp Fiction.Although Quentin Tarantino had already planned to cast Michael Madsen in the role of Vincent Vega, something changed his mind.
Speaking at the Supanova Comic Con, Travolta revealed that he got a call from Quentin Tarantino one day and he invited Travolta over to his house. The duo didn’t do much except play board games.
For instance, we played the Grease board game, we played the Saturday Night Fever board game, we played the Welcome Back, Kotter board game. He just had this fantasy of being with his favorite actor and playing the board games from that actor’s movies.
Travolta further continued that after a round of games, Tarantino offered him two roles in his upcoming films.
One was From Dusk Till Dawn then he offered me Pulp Fiction,” Travolta said. “And he said, ‘You didn’t react so much to the vampire movie but you liked the other movie better. Why?’ I said, ‘I’m not a big vampire person, not that it’s not a great story, it’s just that I liked the Vincent Vega story better’. He said, ‘Oh, interesting’.
