The font was used in James Cameron’s mega-successful franchise,Avatarwhich released its sequel two years ago. The 2017 PapyrusSNLvideo was a huge hit, which showed Ryan Gosling’s Steven Wingdings, who is bothered by the fact that the movie used that basic font for its logo.

Back in 2017, theBarbiestar hosted theSaturday Night Liveshow, delivering a hilarious performance about the Papyrus fontfor theAvatarmovielogo.Written by Julio Torres, the skit revolves around Ryan Gosling’s character, Steven Wingdings who is driven insane by the fact thatJames Cameron‘sAvatar,used the default font Papyrus for its movie logo.
His life has turned completely upside down who can’t ‘eat’ or ‘sleep’ as a default font has been used in the mega-blockbuster franchise.

Gosling’s character talks to his therapist stating,
“He just highlighted ‘Avatar.’ He clicked the drop-down menu, and then he just randomly selected Papyrus. Like a thoughtless child, just wandering by a garden, yanking leaves along the way.”
Since the font garnered major attention at the time of its release, addressing the issue diverted fans’ attention to the franchise. The film director also made his remark on the oldSNLsketch in quite a cheeky way.

While doing promotions for the then-new sequel of his hit movie,Avatar: The Way of Water,he was quick to address the viralSNLsketch, taking a subtle dig at his movie’s font type. However, the director seemed least interested as he shared his insights during an interview withBBC Radio 1.
He shared,“It’s haunted me…not really. I couldn’t give a sh*t.”
He continued,
“It is pretty funny. I’m just astonished that they spent that much money on a little cinematic vignette that’s around such a, you know, wispy thin concept.”

“I said, ‘All right guys we are now doubling down, we’re using Papyrus for everything.'”
As hilarious as it sounds, theTitanicdirector admitted that he was unaware of the font.
“The funniest thing about that whole story is I didn’t even know it was Papyrus. Nobody asked me, I just thought the art Department had come up with this cool font.”
In another interview viaSlashFilm, he said something similar while admitting that the font choice was slammed for being a lazy choice.
“I was not aware that our font was an off-the-shelf thing; I assumed the art department or the title company came up with it. Of course, it was trolled mercilessly as a lazy choice, but frankly, I like the font.”
