The Royal family is as respected and powerful as a family can get. With their influence on the world, they have been immortalized in every way possible due to the impact they have had over the centuries. Considering this, one would assume that figures, regardless of how successful they are, would watch their tongues when talking about them.

However, some celebrities tend to get quite candid when talking about the family. Danny Boyle, best known for films like28 Days Later,Slumdog Millionaire, andTrainspotting, is an excellent example of the same.
During an interview, the director spoke a little too truthfully about his thoughts on the monarchy, and his words could easily be labeled as controversial.

Only the director ended up declining the honor. During an interview withThe Guardian, he revealed his reasoning behind this, and it was quite interesting.

The director confessed that he never had any interest in the British monarchy honoring and giving knighthood to specific citizens. He stated that he would rather be treated like an equal citizen than be given preferential treatment by the royal family.

Further in the interview, Danny Boyle made some very bold claims about the Royal family. He started by saying that he believed that the British monarchy would be abolished within his lifetime, even though it has stood tall for over 1,200 years. He then talked about why he thinks so, specifically talking about their image in the media and how it is slowly staggering.
He stated that there is a lot of pressure on them, forcing them to be a certain way and hold up certain images that are causing them to crack within themselves. He then talked about the kind of press coverage they get, stating that they are being seen by the public through a very comical sort of lens, with the expectations that are wanted from them being somewhat ridiculous.

I think the pressure on them is utterly impossible, as recent events show. It’s a ludicrous spotlight they’re under. you may still have a royal family if you like … but actually have an elected head of state.

With this in mind, he mentioned that although the royal family may not be around for too long, the concept of a royal family could still be around. However, he clarified that these decisions be made by the public as a whole and not centuries of the same bloodline.
After Boyle said these words, he was asked who he would want to be in the Royal family. He jokingly mentioned that, in his eyes, J.K. Rowling would be the perfect contender.
