Most anime fans are familiar with Hisoka fromHunter x Huntergiven his massive popularity. Among the many brilliant characters in the story, he stands out due to his questionable motives and a never-ending desire to test his powers. His introduction is truly bone-chilling with how menacing and ruthless he is.

Most of his decisions are driven by an incessant need for some thrill in life. Even though Yoshihiro Togashi has explored his character quite well, fans can’t stop thinking about his true personality beyond his conceitedness. Although worlds apart in aura, Togashi might have created Hisoka as a parallel to Netero in the story, given their similar motivations.

Hunter x HunterFan Theory: Hisoka could be a Parallel of Netero

First introduced to us during the Hunter Exam arc, Hisoka has always been on a hunt for strong opponents to fight against. From Gon to Netero, he has thought of fighting every strong character in the series. Similarly, Netero found great pleasure in fighting. During his fight against Meruem, he gave it his all without holding back or trying to escape alive. Both characters are power-hungry and always on the lookout for a strong opponent who can face them.

Hisoka even challenged Netero during the Hunter Exam, but Netero just brushed him off. At that point Hisoka seemed more menacing and powerful than Netero and things have significantly changed since then. Given how fights are their primary source of enjoyment or joy,Yoshihiro Togashimight have used the same basic traits for crafting both Netero and Hisoka.

If this theory turns out to be true, Hisoka might get some good development in the near future. He’s already an interesting character, and if Togashi puts his mind to it, he can very well turn him into the best. However, there are some events from the manga that suggest that this fan theory is probably too far-fetched.

Here’s What Makes This Theory Somewhat Impossible

Netero was introduced as a senile man who gave the impression of being a very knowledgeable person. It wasn’t just his strength but the training he had undergone to get to that point. He definitely had innate talent but he went through intense training to become the strongest. While the ants snapped the hunters in half without much movement, Netero killed their King, and he was way past his prime at that moment.

Contrary to Netero, Hisoka is nowhere near the strongest character in the series. He fights for pleasure and his arrogance often leaves him unguarded for his opponents to land some heavy blows on him. This is not to say that he’s weak, but Netero was always leagues ahead. Moreover, Hisoka’s motivations are quite simple from what we know so far. These two are too different for Hisoka to be a copy of Netero.

His desire to fight strong characters probably doesn’t have profound reasoning behind it. However, thistheory on Redditsuggests that he might have deeper reasons behind his manic persona.

While it’s all but confirmed that Hisoka and Netero probably aren’t direct parallels or copies of one another, Hisoka’s next appearance might give us some more developments to theorize about. Since his last fight proved detrimental for him, his return might reveal his new powers and abilities. But as things are now, Hisoka is nowhere close to what Netero once represented in the manga.
