While a half dozen or so versions of the Xbox controller have been released over the past decade, thankfully, they all follow the same pairing process when connecting them to your iOS device.

To start, open up your iPad or iPhone’s settings and click on Bluetooth. With Bluetooth enabled, you’ll be able to see any available devices on this screen. Next, turn on the Xbox controller and locate the pairing button. This will be on the top of the controller, close to where the charging port is typically located. Press and hold the pairing button until the Xbox button starts flashing. In a few moments, you should see the Xbox controller become an available device on your iPad or iPhone. Click on the device to pair it, and you are all set!

Next, rather than powering on the Playstation controller, instead, press and hold the PS button and Share button at the same time until the light starts to flash. This should cause the controller to appear as an available device on your iPad or iPhone. Click on it to pair the controller.

How To Pair A Switch Controller

Since all Switch controllers operate using Bluetooth, they are all capable of being paired to your iOS device. For this guide, we paired a PowerA Micro controller, but the steps to pair any Nintendo Switch supported controller are the same.

Locate the pairing button on the top of the controller. Like the Xbox controllers, this should typically be close to where the charging port is located. If you are pairing one of your Joycons, the pairing button will be where the SL and SR buttons are located. Press and hold the pairing button until the green lights on the bottom of the controller start flashing. After a few moments, the controller should show up on your Bluetooth settings.
