All Xu Wu’s Weaknesses

When it comes to elements, Xu Wu is theweakest against Ice.To deal the most damage possible against this monster, it’s recommended tocraft a weaponwith the Ice element attached.

However,Fire, Water, and Thunder are decent options, too, just not as strong. Don’t bring a weapon with the Dragon element attached since Xu Wu is resistant to it.

Monster Hunter World Sold Over 1 Million Copies Since October 2024

Fans are getting ready for the next Monster Hunter game by revisiting Monster Hunter World.

As for weapon type, Xu Wu is theweakest against Blunt and Cut damage.

In this case, it’s recommended to equip a weapon that largely focuses on inflicting these types of damage. Some examples include the Hammer and Hunting Horn (Blunt) or Sword & Shield and Great Sword (Cut).

The weakest point of attack on Xu Wu is its head and mouth, both having a four-star rating in the Large Monster Field Guide when using Cut and Blunt weapons.

Since it’s best to stay behind Xu Wu when attacking, I recommend putting all your focus on dealing damage to the back of its head, since the mouth can be hard to reach.

Best Strategy to Beat Xu Wu

The Xu Wu is a challengingenemy inMonster Hunter Wilds, so you better understand its moveset. To get the advantage over Xu Wu, you’ll have to play aggressively and get behind the monster as much as possible. Whenattacking from behind, the octopus has trouble landing hits on the player.

There are a handful of attacks to look out for when fighting a Xu Wu. Let’s take a look in the grid below.

Description

Tentacle Slam & Swipe

Xu Wu slams its tentacles on the ground and swipes in a cricle.

Dodge roll to the back of Xu Wu and attack the monster from behind.

Jumping Spike Throw

Xu Wu launches itself over the player and throws a group of spikes to the ground.

Dodge toward Xu Wu to avoid getting hit by the spikes.

Mouth Charge

Xu Wu reveals its mouth and launches toward the player, dealing high damage.

Run to the side to avoid or hop on your Seikret and ride away from Xu Wu’s line of vision.

Grab Attack

Xu Wu can grab onto the player and swallow them, draining their health bar.

Equip any Sling Shot ammo and shoot the red weak spot on Xu Wu’s mouth.

The first, and most frequent attack, is when itslams down its tentacles and swipes to the side. To avoid taking damage here, dodge roll to the back of Xu Wu. If you’re not close enough to the monster during this attack to dodge behind it, then run away to get out of reach.

Another frequent move is when Xu Wulaunches itself into the air, jumping over the player, and then throwing a handful of spikesin the player’s direction. These spikes cover great distances, so you’ll want to dodge toward the monster to avoid them. However, sprinting to the side works well too.

One of Xu Wu’s strongest attacks is when itreveals his mouth, pulling his tentacles back. If the monster does this, you need to continuously dodge to the side to get out of its line of vision, since it’s about tolaunch directly toward you. This is Xu Wu’s strongest attack and can drain almost your entire health bar.

Lastly, Xu Wu has a chance to grab you and hold you in the air. If this happens, you want toshoot any Slinger Ammo into its mouth(indicated by a red light). Shooting the monster a handful of times will cause it to drop you. You’ll also stun the monster in the process.

With these strategies and focus on exploiting Xu Wu’s weaknesses, you’ll defeat it in no time. If you have trouble, shoot an SOS flare andengage in multiplayerfor some extra help. Good luck out there, hunter.
