Whitney Houston’s demise came as a shock to the music industry and Hollywood at large, especially the circumstances under which it occurred. There was a lot that was reported about the legendary singer’s death, who died drowning in a hotel.
As reported by multiple outlets, there was much to report from the coroner about the nature of her death, which was written off as being accidental in nature. There were other details about her death that were made public, with it entering public consciousness once again with the release of her biopic,I Wanna Dance With Somebody, in 2022.
Whitney Houston was found with substances in her body
Whitney Houston, widely acclaimed as one of the crown jewels of the music industry, passed away in February 2012, a day before that year’s Grammy Awards were there to be held. It was ruled that she passed away due to an accidental drowning in her hotel room.
The coroner, upon examining the body, reported that there were multiple substances found in her bloodstream, chief among them “cocaine and other metabolites”. Xanax, Benadryl, and Flexeril were also found in her body but were ruled to have not contributed to her passing.
There was water in her lungs, which indicated the fact that she passed away due to drowning, likely accidentally because of all the substances in her system. Her death was also reported to have been complicated by the cocaine in her system, but it did not constitute as being of lethal amounts. It was also further commented that her heart disease could have contributed to her death as well.
Clive Davis hosted his pre-Grammy party while Houston’s body was still in the building
Clive Davis, a close friend, and mentor to the deceased, hosted his pre-Grammy’s party in the hotel where Houston was staying. The news was broken a few hours before the party, which went on.Davis talked abouthow heartbroken he was while talking to the attendants. He said:
By now you have all learned of the unspeakably tragic news of our beloved Whitney’s passing. I don’t have to mask my emotion in front of a room full of so many dear friends.
Davis would go on to talk about the grief he was feeling at Houston’s passing, which came as a shock to a slew of people in the industry. Clive Davis was a close friend to Houston and remained as such for Houston’s entire music career. It can be said for sure that the duo would have seen her retirement through had it not been cut short by her tragic passing.
