When someone is questioned about their favorite FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki game, the answer is always the Soulslike titles such asDark SoulsandElden Ring. Seriously, the studio has invented the genre and continues to innovate upon it.

However, there’s one game from FromSoftware that wrecks every Soulslike by the studio:Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Many consider it the pinnacle of Miyazaki’s creations simply due to the fact that he focused on mastering the graphical side of things.

Sekirois a breathtaking visual masterpiece thanks to Hidetaka Miyazaki

WhenSekirodebuted back in March 2019,it instantly grabbed the attention of gamersdue to it making a big departure from the studio’s traditional Soulsborne formula. It’s a unique title that focuses on parrying combat and exploration over RPG-style leveling.

However, that’s not the only thing that makesSekirounique. The action-adventure title took a different approach when it came to the artistic design, which deliberately made vivid use of color. It was quite a turn from all the muted and gothic designs we’d seen in Dark Souls andBloodborne.

In an interview withRedbull, Hidetaka Miyazaki opened up about this unique artistic design and explained why FromSoftware took a different direction.

One thing we focused on in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’s artistic design was the use of more vivid colour,” says Miyazaki. “During the early stages of development, I looked back on things that inspired a series of Japanese taste and was fascinated by the beauty of these colours – deciding on them as one of the concepts for Sekiro’s artistic design.

As Miyazaki was inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, he wanted to bring more vibrant and vivid colors to the action-adventure game to give it a unique visual identity. Not only doesSekiro‘s artistic design make it look breathtaking, but it also amplifies the intensity of combat.

Unlike the Soulsborne games, Miyazaki and his team took in actual historical authenticity. They blended it with their own creative direction to ensure that players have a visual experience that they can never forget.

Seriously, whateverAssassin’s Creed Shadows ends up doing with its versionof the feudal Japan setting, it won’t be able to matchSekiroin any way or shape.

Where is theBloodborneremaster?

It’s great to see that Miyazaki wantedSekiroto be a masterpiece, and he’s clearly achieved that objective. However, gamers can’t help but wonder if he’s forgotten another one of his legendary games:Bloodborne.

Bloodbornedebuted all the way back in 2015 and was a collaboration between Sony’s now-defunct Japan Studio and FromSoftware. Although it was a massive hit, and gamers loved it,its technical performance has been a point of criticism.

Gamers are still locked to 30 FPS on PS4, and sometimes, the game even dips to 30 FPS. This has led to many feeling that a Remaster could solve all technical issues thanks to current-gen hardware, but FromSoftware hasn’t said anything.

PlayStation’s former Head of Indies, Shuhei Yoshida, has presented a theory that could suggest why the Remaster still hasn’t happened. During aninterviewwith Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida brought up the issue of the remaster of the Souslike and what’s probably holding back the developers.

Yoshida believes that Miyazaki has a tight schedule, which hasn’t allowed him to think aboutBloodborne, and he doesn’t want anyone else to touch the game. The PlayStation team might simply be respecting the FromSoftware boss’ wish and holding off on anything on the remasteruntil Miyazaki is ready to commit.

With that said, do you thinkSekiroabsolutely nailed the vivid, colorful representation of feudal Japan? Let us know in the comments below.
