There’s possibly no video game creator who’s received as much praise asHideo Kojima, and for good reason. From the insanely imaginative Metal Gear series to recent hits likeDeath Stranding, there’s nothing quite like a Hideo Kojima game.
One of the greatest things about the gaming industry is that many of its original savants, like Kojima, are still here to teach us their methods. That said, like all great creators, there’s this aching feeling knowing that one of these games may be Kojima’s last.

According to a recent interview with Edge Magazine, andshared by VGC, Hideo Kojima has a contingency plan for precisely that. After facing health issues around the COVID pandemic, he created a backup method to preserve his best-kept ideas.
Of course, Hideo Kojima is currently working onDeath Stranding 2: On The Beach, a successor to the controversial yet deeply praised Death Stranding, whichoddly predicted how, in the forthcoming year of 2020, humanity would be completely stranded from each other due to the COVID pandemic.

During this pandemic, Kojima faced complications such as eye surgery and serious illness. In the interview, he explains how, “until then, I didn’t think I was old, you know? I just didn’t feel my age, and I assumed I would be able to create for as long as I live.”
After recovering, he still found himself thinking, “how many years do I have left to make game or a film?”This sort of reminiscence of our own mortality can be an unclear path for creators. Yet inclassic Hideo Kojimafashion, this only fueled this into a passion to preserve his legacy and his company’s future.

I gave a USB stick with all my ideas on it to my personal assistant, kind of like a will… Perhaps they could continue to make things after I’m gone at Kojima Productions.
After his long journey, with roadblocks like the heated dispute betweenhimself and Konami, this decision is incredibly honorable. So, even after Kojima passes away or moves on, Kojima Productions will still have his essence and ideas to continue long into the future.

Additionally, the company he has built over the last few years seems immensely strong. By bringing onpowerful outside talentand bolstering its internal development team, Kojima Productions is far from a newcomer on the block.
Honestly, even if Kojima didn’t have this USB backup plan, his legacy is already possibly the most outstanding in gaming. No matter what happens, if that time eventually comes, we will never forget Hideo Kojima as one of the greatest ever to do it.

Despite these dark reflections on our mortality, we hope Kojima and Kojima Productions have a very prosperous future. Also, according to all theinformation and previews, the upcoming Death Stranding 2 already seems to be a monumental addition to their legacy.
