Arrowhead CEO andHelldivers 2Game Director Johan Pilestedt is being showered in praise by the gaming community after he had an incredibly wholesome response to a fan looking to buy a copy of Helldivers 2.
While the gaming community is flooded withgreedy CEOsand corporate bigwigs, some of whom envision a futurewhere we don’t even own our games(looking at you, Ubisoft), Arrowhead’s communication with the Helldivers community has not only been a breath of fresh air, but a glimmer of hope for the industry.

Helldivers 2 has had a severe case of ‘struggling from success’, resulting in some severe server issues since launch. Thankfully, the team at Arrowhead has been working tirelessly to rectify the game’s connection issues and crashes. During this time, there has been a constant line of communication with the Helldivers 2 community, mainly through the studio’s CEO, Johan Pilestedt.
But Pilestedt is now being praised forhis responseto a fan on X who is eager to purchase a copy of Helldivers 2. After the user madea postabout wanting to buy a copy of Helldivers 2, but then stated that they simply couldn’t afford it, Pilestedt replied by saying:
“If you have no cash, get it later. While we made a really fun game it’s worth waiting until the servers can support the capacity. I mean, as a CEO I of course want the game to be as profitable as possible, but if you spent your last $ and got stuck in server queues I’d be [heartbroken].”
The response quickly made its way over to theHelldivers subreddit, where the community praised Pilestedt for his genuine honesty. “If the entire industry acted like this guy and his team, holy hell we’d be in an absolute golden age instead of wallowing in MTX, cash grab, half-baked filth,” one user exclaimed.
Another user explained that the constant kind words and honesty from Pilestedt are why they “bought the game without a second thought.” While one Helldivers 2 player said that Arrowhead had their utmost respect, before going on to say that they will “watch their career with great enthusiasm.”
And it’s not all bad news for the user who couldn’t afford to buy a copy of Helldivers 2. In response to another user on X, they said that they were gifted money via Cashapp shortly after their post and used it to buy Helldivers 2 on the PlayStation 5. Another win for democracy!
