A developer forHearts of Iron 4is being met with criticism online after responding sarcastically to a negative review on Steam. The Paradox Development Studio dev’s response has been blasted as “tone-deaf” and “childish” by fellow players.
The response was spotted byReddit user The_Giant_Lizard, who took to the Steam subreddit earlier this week to bring some attention to the dev’s sarcastic comment. The original review, however, comes from aSteam user known as Pluto, who has well over 3,000 hours in Hearts of Iron 4. But despite having over 133 days in-game, Pluto opted to rate the game negatively, mainly due to its lack of “logic and realism.”

Warzone Players Are Being Mocked For “Stacking,” Even Though It’s How You’re Supposed To Play
It’s time to stop getting angry at people for playing a team-based mode correctly.
While the user did leave a negative review for Hearts of Iron 4, they also pointed out that they “wouldn’t have 3,000+ hours in the game if it was that bad.” They also said that the game is “very enjoyable and fun,” but it was the historical immersion and realism that led to them opting for a negative review.

In response, a Paradox developer known as Arheo responded by saying:
“I’m sorry to hear your 3263 hours of Hearts of Iron 4 were a disappointment. We shall endeavour to make your 3264th hour as fulfilling as possible.”

As you can tell, the reply is rather sarcastic, which hasn’t gone down too well with the community.
Hearts Of Iron 4 Dev’s Sarcastic Response Has Triggered Some Players
Over on the Steam subreddit, playerscalled out the dev’s response for being “childish.“Users also gave their thoughts on why a negative review with over 3,000 hours of playtime isn’t as silly as it may seem.
“Negative Reviews after a lot of hours are the real and fair criticisms, they invested a lot of time into the game so they love it in some sense so are disappointed with some changes down the road. Better than the 0.2 hrs played “boring game” “no one is going to read this so im gay” reviews anyway,“Reddit user bazinfastjohny said.

Another Reddit userechoed a similar sentiment, saying, “Why is this written like leaving a bad review after a lot of playtime is bad? The person with 1,000 hours in a game will know a lot more about what’s good and what’s bad compared to the person with 2 hours of gameplay.”
While users were quick to jump on the bandwagon and call out this dev,Arheo responded to the threadand said that the response didn’t quite go down how they intended it to. “It was intended as a tongue-in-cheek comment to a user with many thousands of hours, though I agree it didn’t land very well,” the dev said.
They went on to explain how the reviewer reached out to them privately and the two discussed their critiques in more detail.
