Over the course of almost 30 years, Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecehas introduced many varieties of individual storylines that have had some kind of significance to the central story. These storylines usually focus on a singular character and explain their importance in the arc that is being portrayed at the time. And while most of them are quite intriguing, some just don’t hit the spot.

One such storyline was seen during the Whole Cake Island Saga, particularly during the Zou arc. The Zou arc was extremely important forOne Piecebecause it built up the hype for Wano, one of the most anticipated narratives. At the center of the Zou arc was Raizo, one of the Nine Red Scabbards and also a prominent ninja from the Wano country.
Raizo was one of the most hyped characters inOne Piece, particularly during the Zou arc. However, once he gained a spot in the central storyline and moved towards the Wano Saga, his significance was reduced from theOne Piecenarrative, and he hardly made any contribution to the main plot.

The hype around Raizo’s character inOne Piece
Raizo’s name was first heard when the Straw Hat Pirates landed on Zou and learned about the suffering they had been going through because they were hiding him. According to the lore, after Zou got separated from the rest of the Nine Red Scabbards, he reached Zou, where he was hidden from Jack, one of the All-Stars of the Beast Pirates inOne Piece.

Jack was extremely powerful, and he laid waste to the land of Zou, hurting prominent characters like Inuarashi and Nekomamushi. He destroyed half of the island and almost killed most of the Mink tribe just to find the location of Raizo. This hinted that Raizo is an extremely important character and his role will be quite significant duringthe Wano arc.
When the Straw Hat Pirates and the rest of theOne Piececharacters finally met him, they were quite hyped because of his status as a ninja. While this was used as a comedic element within the series, it still added a lot of substance to his character and built it up nicely.

Raizo’s storyline was completely wasted
WitnessingEiichiro Odabuild hype around Raizo’s character,One Piecefans assumed that he might have a crucial role in the Wano arc. But once the plot reached Wano, Raizo lost his significance. While he played a decent role in the differentstorylines of the Wano arc, it was not worth the hype that was created around his character during the Zou arc.
When the main war arrives, Raizo’s character gets limited to fighting one single character, and even that fight drags on for way too long.

Aside from that, he did not contribute much, and all the development that he went through got wasted. Many even pointed out that Raizo’s storyline might be the worst in the entire Wano arc.
One Piece’s Big Reveal With Shanks’ Twin Shamrock Still Doesn’t Prove Shanks Was Not Evil All Along, Here’s How
Considering the plethora of characters Eiichiro Oda has introduced inOne Piece,it is understandable for him to forget a few characters. But ignoring a character like Raizo, who was hyped so much, didn’t fit well with the Whole Cake Island and Wano Saga inOne Piece.
