Magic The Gatheringdeveloper Wizards of the Coast revealed a new collab with Hatsune Miku for its Kamigawa Neon Dynasty card set expansion.

On February 2, theFrench Twitter accountforMagic The Gathering(MTG) teased a collaboration with Hatsune Miku, and a full reveal happened on June 08, 2025.

Introducing Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is aVocaloid, virtual idols who can sing anything you feed them, in a robotic tune. The first Vocaloids were released in 2003 and the first version of the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid program was launched in 2007.

Hatsune Miku uses the voice of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita as its base. Saki Fujita most notably voiced Ao inYozakura Quartet, and Cure Macaron inKiraKira☆Pretty Cure A La Mode. Some of the most popular Vocaloid songs likeSenbonzakurahave over 40 million views on YouTube.

Hatsune Miku is so omnipresent in Japanese pop culture it often feels like she’s always been there. Another popular example is the Nyan Cat meme song, which is sung by Hatsune Miku. There are also Vocaloid rhythm games on arcades and consoles developed by Sega. The latest game in the series isProject Sekai Colorful Stageon Mobile.

Vocaloid characters also regularly appear in many other games and anime IPs, fromShinkaliontoSuper Robot Wars.Vocaloids regularly get new merch and figures, with several new designs of Hatsune Mikureleased each year.There have been many other Vocaloid programs released since then, and several popular musicians in Japan are also Vocaloid song makers, such asKenshi Yonezu.

Hatsune Miku new songConnectedrevealed forMTGKamigawa Neon Dynasty

An original Hatsune Miku song,Connected, was revealed with a 3D music video to celebrate the release of theMTGKamigawa Neon Dynasty card set.Connectedwas created by Japanese composer Mwk, who explained on Twitter the song’s title references how they hope Vocaloid fans andMTGfans will connect with each other through this collab. MTGKamigawa Neon Dynasty set release date

The Kamigawa Neon Dynasty cards will release on July 15, 2025. Kamigawa is a futuristic world loosely based on Tokyo. It’s the typical “let’s slap some Japanese neon signs on it and call it a day” cliche you find in cyberpunk stories. The city and world of Kamigawa appear in the Music Video ofConnectedwe embedded further below.

Sadly, the official Hatsune Miku Twitter accountconfirmedHatsune Miku herself or other Vocaloid characters will not be appearing inMTG. Hatsune Miku won’t be featured on any Kamigawa Neon Dynasty cards.
