After months of keeping them in the dark, the film has surprisingly been released on Netflix worldwide. But releasing the film is not all that Toho has done, for apparently, as per its officialXaccount, the movie might just be getting a sequel.
While the possibility of a sequel has been hinted at several times (seeThe Direct), the ambiguous post seems to suggest that a sequel might be in the works. At the end of the Academy Award-winning movie, it is shown that the remains of the kaiju are beginning to reform deep under the sea. This, along with the mysterious mark on Nariko, there is a possibility that a sequel has been quietly under the works these past months.

And if the latter was a possibility, a scoop by X user@raserkey1might just prove that Yamazaki will not return to direct another Kaiju flick. Described by the user as another standalone movie by Toho, apparentlyShinsuke Soho,Kigndomdirector, is being consideredfor the nextGodzillamovie.
A major disappointment if this were to come true, we hope Takashi Yamazaki gets to close his epic saga with yet another brilliant movie!
