God of War Ragnaroktakes Kratos and Atreus on a difficult and unforgiving journey where they fight several powerful monsters and deities alike in hopes of writing their own destiny. Throughout the game, the father-son duo travels through nine realms. While you might recognize some realms from the previous game, some regions in God of War Ragnarok are completely new.

You start the game in Midgard with the “Surviving Fimbulwinter” quest. You then move on to Nidavellir for the Quest for Tyr mission and Svartalfheim to complete the Old Friends quest. After you complete the third quest, you have to decide whether you want to travel to Alfheim or Niflheim. Along with that, you also get an option to go back to Svartalfheim.

Which Realm You Should Go To After Old Friends Quest

God of War Ragnarok gives you the option to travel to one of these three realms and asks you to choose carefully. Now, some players might think if they chose a particular realm, they wouldn’t be able to explore the other two. Well, that’s not the case. TheMystic gateway opens up completely after the Old Friends quest, and you’ll see several such gateways across the nine realms.

These gateways allow you to fast-travel to any unlocked realmat any point in the game. All you need to travel between realms are theYggdrasil Seeds, which you get by progressing through the main story. So,even if you decide to go with Alfheim, you can fast-travel to Niflheim or Svartalfheim sometime later in the game.

At this point, the three realms serve different purposes in the game.If you want to jump straight away on the next main quest (Groa’s Secret) to continue the story, you should travel to Alfheim. Kratos and Atreus traveled to this realm in 2018’s God of War. But this time, you’ll also have Tyr accompany you, acting as a guide for the land of Elves.

Alfheim God of war

if you choose Niflheim, the game takes you to a training ground, where you come across some great loot and rewarding side-quests. You canboost your Statsby carrying out activities in this realm. You’ll also come across the"The Eyes of Odin"side-quest in this realm.

Svartalfheim

Finally, you may also go back to Svartalfheim (where you finished the Old Friends quest) if you have any “unfinished business” in the realm. You canreturn to Svartalfheim if you want to unlock any remaining Legendary Chests or finish all the side-questswaiting for you. However, if you’ve already achieved 100% progress in this realm, there’s no need to go back.

It’s important to note thatAlfheim takes you on a 90-minute-long main quest, so it’ll be a while before you get a chance to return to the other two realms. Also, you’ll go against some powerful enemies in Alfheim, so if you think you’re not fully prepared to take on the Elves,go to Niflheim or Svartalfheim toprepare wellfor the main questby boosting your Stats or finding somepowerful attachmentsfor your Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos.
