God of War Ragnarökhas become the fastest-selling title in the series in the United Kingdom, as reported byGamesIndustryBiz. According to charts firm Gfk, Ragnarok has become the leading title in terms of day-one physical sales, first-week launch sales, and lifetime sales.
“Day 1 physical sales were already greater than any other full-week launch sales for other titles in this franchise” Gfk boss, Dorian Bloch confirmed. According to Bloch, there have only been two times when a God of War title didn’t make it to the top of the charts. The first game in the series was released on the PS2 in July 2005 and debuted at No.5, while the fourth mainline title, God of War Ascension, was held back by the competition from Crystal Dynamics’s Tomb Raider reboot.
Bloch also speaks about how Ragnarök is the first cross-gen title in the series, and that 55% of the sales of the PS5 console were part of the God of War hardware bundle, so it has been a big success for Sony on all fronts.

The unique appeal of the PS5 version has been a big point of consideration when it comes to sales, according toFamitsu’s talk with Santa Monica’s director Eric Williams. God of War was the first game in the previous generation to adopt a seamless experience with no loading screens between scenes, but this time, thanks to the ultra-high-speed SSD, the comfort of playing has increased even more. Many barriers of entry have been removed as well thanks to newly added accessibility options, which have been thoroughly tested with visually impaired players across development.
God of War is currently sitting at 94 onMetacriticand has earned the favor of many reviewers and the title of a must-play game. The reason for this worldwide appeal (As Eric defined it) was that it was prepared as a true sequel to the previous work. The strength of the bonds between parent and child could be seen in every gesture, like Aterus who gained a new backbone when killing deers, after he couldn’t kill one by himself without the help of his father Kratos. The emotional catharsis of their journey has helped the game earn critical acclaim, and will surely help it earn even more accolades in the future.
