Earlier this week, MultiVersus' developer confirmed that Gizmo from the popular Gremlins franchise would be joining the game as a new playable character. The release date was set for Tuesday, September 6th, but has now been pushed back by two days to Thursday, September 8th.

The reason for the delay was not stated by the developer in its announcement of the delay via the game’s officialTwitter account. In the statement, Player1stGames said, “Looks like Gizmo is a bit camera shy. We’re going to need a few more days to coerce him out of his box. He’ll now be joining the roster on Thursday, 9/8”.

Alongside the release of Gizmo, Stripe will also be joining MultiVersus as a playable character during Season 1. There was previously some confusion as to whether or not the two would be separate characters, or if Gizmo was simply a skin for Stripe. Tony Huynh, the co-founder of Player1stGames,took to Twitter to clarify that the two are in fact separate characters. A firm release date for Stripe has not yet been confirmed by the developers.

Despite the delay, the announcement did give fans their very first look at Gizmo in-game, albeit only a short peek. Fans can likely expect a full gameplay trailer, similar to the Morty one shown above, closer to the release of the character.

MultiVersus fans are sure to be disappointed by the character delay, but there’s still plenty to look forward to. Tony Huynh recently confirmed that the next patch for the game would be “one of the biggest ones yet” and will “add a lot of cool things”. It’s unclear what else fans can expect apart from some balancing changes and the addition of Gizmo, but Huynh did confirm that Guilds and the in-game Store are still being worked on, so fans shouldn’t expect them in the next update.

Gizmo will join the MultiVersus roster on Thursday, September 8th.
