Genshin Impactdeveloper miHoYo revealed a new official Q&A with its team, answering several frequently asked questions by players around the world, most notably confirming new account security measures will be added, likely pointing to 2FA -two factor identification - implementation.

Will 2FA come withGenshin Impact 1.6?

In the new Q&A,miHoYo mentioned new measures to reinforce account security will be added, strongly hinting at a 2FA system. A limited test of these measures will be conducted in May-June 2021, with an full implementation later on. Which means it could be final byGenshin ImpactVer 1.6 in mid-June. Moreover, in the past, certain quality of life improvements mentioned in Q&As were rolled out earlier than what the Q&A hinted at. So these new security measures could be coming sooner than later. For now, we can only wait though.

Note that the Q&A is currently only available in Chinese. I’ll be able to translate more details once the Japanese version is out. We’ll be sharing more with you as soon as we’re available.

How 2FA could changeGenshin?

More security is never a bad thing. However, personally speaking, I doubt it will actually have that big of an impact. I don’t want to belittle theGenshin Impactenglish community, but seeing how young the average age of players is, many are easily impressioned, and scammed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many of theGenshin Impactaccount hack casesare actually cases of unsuspicious players sharing their passwords with scammers. At the end of the day, the same mistakes will be made, except the victims will also send in their 2FA password to their scammers for whatever “free Primogems” they were promised.

In any case, this is good news, and hopefully the case of account hack will drop.Genshin Impactis available on PS4, PC, and mobile. A PS5 version is coming soon. A Switch version was also announced, but doesn’t seem to be coming out anytime soon.
