You may recall various reports this year of people experiencing drifting issues with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers.Class-action lawsuitswere discussed surrounding the issue, Nintendoprovided a statement, and apparentlythe fix would be free. In fact, Logan wrote up a guide onhow to get your Joy-Con’s fixedby Nintendo.
Of course, that was all in reference to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con’s that can be detached from the console itself. Additional controllers can be purchased to act as a replacement while you’re getting your others fixed for example. However, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite, the controllers are not portable and are fixed to the console, and well, in a recent video it seems that the drifting issue is still prominent.
In a video posted on September 22 by YouTube userAlexis Javier, the video showsThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildrunning on a Nintendo Switch Lite. The camera rotates around Link horizontally without the right thumbstick being touched. Javier does, of course, touch the thumbstick, repositioning the camera and once left untouched the drifting can be seen continuing.
Javier then uploaded another video earlier today which also answers some questions they’ve obviously received in light of the above video gaining views.
The below video shows the drifting issue continuing inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,Javier shows that they are not holding any additional Joy-Con’s and that there is no one else in the room, denying that off-screen tactics are taking place to mimic the issue.
We also see Javier recalibrating the right thumbstick, with some noticeable drift showing in the calibration wheel. After calibration, it appears to fix the issue but then returns shortly after twiddling the stick for a while.
Of course, Javier does clarify that the issue seems to “come and go”, claiming that there were no drift issues in theDragon Quest XIdemo. They also state that they’re unsure if it’s just an issue withThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand will monitor the issue over the coming days.
This does become more concerning as a consumer as if there are prominent drifting issues with the Nintendo Switch Lite, then the entire system would need to be returned in order for the issue to be fixed. So far, I’ve seen no other reports online claiming to have drifting issues with the console, but it is still early days as the Nintendo Switch Lite released on July 01, 2025.
